UFC president Dana White believes that the next step for former UFC champions Matt Hughes and Forrest Griffin should be retirement. White informed a number of reporters during his usual post-press conference media scrum Thursday.
Hughes (45-9) last competed against Josh Koscheck, suffering a knockout loss. He is 18-7 in his UFC career, and stated after the defeat that he would think long and hard about his future.

Griffin (19-7) is the original winner of The Ultimate Fighter. He has gone 10-5 inside the Octagon, and is coming off a decision win over Tito Ortiz.

"Hughes is one of those guys that, I absolutely, positively want Matt Hughes to retire," White said (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). "I would like Forrest to retire. There's nothing left for Forrest to prove, either."

Of course, White knows that it is hard for fighters to hang it up. White has been a key figure in the end of Chuck Liddell's career, and is pushing Wanderlei Silva to consider retirement, as well.

Pretty much agree with him on this, Forrest has been done for years and I respect the hell out of Matt but he should officially retire as well.

Matt Hughes has absolutely nothing left to prove. He has done it all and is very well respected. He can retire with his head held high.

Forrest... well... he's just too slow. I'd say at least one more brawl for him to go out on.

As far as Wandy goes... he needs one more big fight too. VITOR!

If they give Griffin another fight i say make Forrest Griffin-Stephan Bonnar to finish off the trilogy.

Also, Bonnar for being an older fighter has looked great in his last few fights like the guy can still go out their and put on a show, and would be coming into the fight on a three fight win streak.
