The news of Chael Sonnen retiring shocked a lot of fans in the MMA world, including myself. The news concluded a whirlwind of events including Wanderlei Silva running away from his most recent drug test and being replaced by Vitor Belfort, along with Chael himself failing his own drug test as well.

But Chael rests his case, and he certainly has a lot of open options. Being a father is a top priority on his list, and professionally he also serves as an analyst for UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1 alongside fellow UFC fighters Rashad Evans and also most recently retired former opponent Brian Stann. But UFC President Dana White suggested that along those lines, Chael Sonnen could possibly run the company once he's done with doing so.

Dana White said:
I think Chael would be fantastic. The thing is with Chael, though, is that he over-exaggerates too much, and you don’t know what’s real and what’s not.

Chael is obviously a passionate guy. I think he loves the sport and he’s great.

Let me tell you what, Chael has so many opportunities right now, he wouldn’t even have time. If I left tomorrow, and they said, ‘Hey, we want you to run this thing,’ he’s got a lot of big opportunities out there right now. It’s wide open for him.

Chael Sonnen retired with an official UFC record of 7-7 with his first initial run in the UFC in 2005 being 1-2 then returning to the promotion in 2009 and making a run of 6-5. His wins include those over Yushin Okami, Michael Bisping, and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. His losses come to Demian Maia, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, and fellow broadcast partner Rashad Evans.

Chael is highly regarded as the best fight promoter and arguably the best trash talker in the world let alone professional sports.
