Dallas, the much-loved prime-time soap opera of the 1980's, is officially returning after the Tnt network ordered 10 episodes of a new series. It was reported this year that Dallas stars Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy were reprising their roles for a new pilot episode, and the fresh instalment appears to have impressed network bosses, reports the New York Times.

The new series will feature the updated rivalries of the Ewing family, while incorporating several new characters. The show will once again focus on J.R Ewing and his brother Bobby Ewing, rival brothers whose family earned their fortune from cattle and oil. Linda Gray will also reprise her original 'Dallas' role, while 'Fast and the Furious' star Jordana Brewster will play a woman who finds herself in love triangle with 'Christopher' and 'John Ross'. Tnt have confirmed they will show teaser clips of the new episodes during the season-premieres of 'The Closer' and 'Rizzoli & Isles' on Monday (4th June 2011), with Dallas expected to air in summer 2012.

In the final scene of the 1979-1980 season, Larry Hagman's character was shot by an anonymous gunman, leading to the phrase 'Who Shot J.R?' making its way into popular culture. Much of the following season followed the hunt for the assailant, with the eventual 'Who Done It?' episode watched by a reported 88 million people.
