Lawrence Dallaglio admits he may have played his last game for England after the controversy of his new autobiography.
The Wasps number eight criticised current national coach Brian Ashton's leadership and preparations in his book, "It's in the Blood: My Life".
The Rugby Football Union registered their displeasure at the nature of the timing of his comments which came so soon after the team had lost the World Cup final to South Africa.
Although he has since apologised for any embarrassment he may have caused, Dallaglio fears he may not play international rugby again.
Realistic
"I'm 35 and I'm pretty realistic. I may well have played my last game for England," he told The Guardian.
"If you read the comments of certain people they would appear to hope I have."
Ashton's future with England is also still in doubt, with the coach waiting to find out if he will carry on in the role.
Elite director of rugby Rob Andrew is currently heading up a review of the World Cup campaign with the results likely in December.
Dallaglio feels it is vital England get things right for their long-term future and is of the belief that an overseas coach may be the best way forward.
Crossroads
"We're at a crossroads and where we go from here is important," he admitted.
"I'm sure they (the RFU) won't be fazed by any comments myself, or anyone else, has made.
"My attitude would be to say 'let's forget about country or nationality' and go with the best for us."
i did not see a rugby thread so i post it on here
