I’m a big serial killer fan (though this sounds wrong no matter which way you say it lol)
When I was a teenager and the internet was starting to become bigger, I started reading about and watching videos about serial killers.
I am fascinated by their minds, like, what happened in their lives to bring them to the point of murder? I could never even dream of killing and cutting up someone, eating them, etc., no matter how angry I get, even, that barrier is there, but, these people don’t have it. I’d love to sit and interview.
Anyway, finished the series, so, my thoughts. I’m not gonna get too detailed so I don’t spoil.
First episode starts at the end with how Dahmer gets caught. That episode has you anxious. Good way to open a series.
After that, it’s gets more slow moving. You learn about his life and it goes back and forth between the years here and there, shows his relationship (or lack of) with his parents, his grandma, the kids at school, explores his inner desires that are starting to manifest.
If you’re looking for murders all over, it doesn’t go in to every scenario in detail, the murders themselves are mostly left up to your imagination.
Just FYI, episode 6 is the deaf victim, so, there’s a lot of sign language and the sound disappears sometimes, I thought my tv volume crashed, but, it’s just the episode, they’re kinda putting you in the shoes of Tony (deaf victim).
Evan Peters, as usual, gives a fantastic performance as Dahmer. The entire cast, really, does a great job in their roles, but, he’s a creepy Dahmer, exactly what we need.
Two other serial killers make an appearance, one briefly, and one throughout parts of episode 10.
I know feeling some sympathy for killers is frowned upon, but, you do feel a bit…what he did was disgusting, but, you feel for the abandonment issues that were a factor in messing him up and you feel for the fact he tried to change and become a good person. What he did was unforgivable though and those victims should never be forgotten.
The series does focus a lot on the victim’s side, so, you’re gonna get a lot of the victim stories, not just all about Dahmer himself, though, of course he’s in every episode.
October 7th is Confessions of a Killer: The Jeffery Dahmer Tapes, coming to Netflix, so, this is a good lead up for anyone who didn’t know Dahmer and his story. If you guys haven’t watched the first 2 in the confessions series, I highly recommend. I’m not sure if they are still on Netflix, but, have a look. The first one is Ted Bundy, the second is John Wayne Gacy. It’s not a tv show like this, it’s a documentary that shares the real life tapes from the killers as they were interviewed, as well as accounts from the police, any surviving victims, etc. absolutely amazing series.
