If it wasn't obvious, Curtis Axel isn't prepared to be a headliner. Not from a wrestling standpoint, not from a mic work standpoint and not from an appearance standpoint. Though he's not being jammed down our throats entirely (though wins over Cena and Triple H among others is a little ridiculous for a wrestler of his caliber) he's clearly a major prospect of the WWE's and a major project as well. Let's examine some of his flaws for a moment.

Worst entrance music ever, quite possibly. Maybe it's not the music itself but rather the entrance as a whole. It's so anti-climactic. No lights, no pyro, not even any signature pose or anything worthy of note? Yeah, needs some tweeking.

Mediocre wrestler. Capable of a 3-star match, sure. But only on a blue moon. I'd wager to say that his wrestling skills are eclipsed by those of Ryback's, Fandango's and Sandow's. Of all of WWE's major prospects, he is the most bland in the ring, bringing nothing to the table than a slightly more intense than average approach with a subpar moveset of basic maneuvers.

Terrible look. The dude is goofy looking for one. His facial expressions are just amusing in a bad way and his wetted down hair with a fluffy beard is really off putting. I suggest either a longer, scruffier hairdo (Jericho length at least) or more of a mowhawk, fluffy beard combo to drive home the 'intense' look. Something resembling a white James Harden..

He needs to hit the weights. His physique isn't bad or anything but for him to be taken seriously as a badass who can deal some damage, he needs to at least look like he is stronger than fucking Zack Ryder.

Mic skills. They're easy to improve so he needs to get after it. Nothing he has said since arriving has been notable or inspiring by any means. Thank God he has Paul Heyman for now. The only thing worthwhile about his entire existence thus far.

Weak name, but that's something that's impossible to get around at this point. I understand we already have second and third generation wrestlers running around with their fathers' names as is (Orton, Rhodes, DiBiase) but a Hennig wouldn't be so bad. It's not like people are gonna be like "Ugh I'm so sick of all these legends' sons"... we all know he's Hennig's son anyways so why go the route of Curtis Axel? Not even original. I understand his dad was Curt and his grandfather was The Axe but why don't you just call him Larry Perfect? It actually sounds better but don't take that as a serious suggestion because it's equally abysmal. WWE fucked up on that one but then again names to grow on you so in a few months it might be an afterthought.

Anyways, I just thought it'd be interesting to hear what everyone thinks he is doing right/wrong so far. What do you think about our possible future IC Champ?

I coulldn't disagree with you more. I find him to be a good worker in the ring and def has the tools to be a main eventer. His theme is awesome...a great remix of his dads theme. Yeah he is a little awkward on the mic and in his entrance but that is something that he will conquer with time. I dont even mind the name. I think he has a bright future and I am looking forward to seeing more from the kid.

While I agree that he is not yet a main eventer or a headliner, he's got the right tools to succeed. To be honest I love his ring work. When allowed to actually wrestle (like with Sin Cara amazingly), Axel can go. While yes, I would love to have his real name, it's a hell of a lot better than fucking Michael McGuillicutty or however the fuck you spell that abysmal name. His look can change. Maybe he does need a little more flare to go main event instead of bland entrance and look. And mic skills can improve. You gotta start somewhere. Given time, I feel Axel can become a Hell of a wrestler.

I think interjecting him in the IC title match and putting him in at that level is the best. He was thrown in the deep far too soon, and the IC title area is far more suitable.

I'm reserving judgement for now. As I said in another thread, the booking is hurting him more than anything.

I agree that Axel may be quite rusty. And to be honest, his gimmick is quite bland. His ring work is decent, but his whole appearance/aura feels extremely recycled. I mean, Other than Punk, most of the Heyman guys have been god awful on the mic (That would explain why Heyman would talk for them, in many cases). Van Dam might have said like one or two things on the mic, ever, and Brock is just as bad as Khali, on the mic.

I think, with a little elbow grease, and some more time in the ring, he could be reasonable.

Since I posted this, it at least seems that his confidence has grown and he's starting to groove a little in his role. I mean, his role is sorta bland, but it's his role and he's getting to start to play it well. So credit to him for getting the ball rolling. Still needs a bit of a makeover. Whatever.

The only thing I agree with you on is his hairstyle needing to change because it pisses me off  other than that I think he's a great worker with great potential.

I have the perfect new name for him... Joe Hennig
