Mary Jane Kelly - Wikipedia

Mary Jane Kelly (c. 1863 – 9 November 1888), also known as Marie Jeanette Kelly, Fair Emma, Ginger, Dark Mary and Black Mary, is widely believed by scholars to have been the final victim of the notorious unidentified serial killer Jack the Ripper, who murdered at least five women in the Whitechapel and Spitalfields districts of London from late August to early November 1888. At the time of Kelly's death, she was approximately 25 years old, working as a prostitute and living in relative poverty.[2]

Unlike the other four canonical Ripper victims—each of whom had been murdered outdoors and whose mutilations could have been committed within minutes—Kelly was murdered within the sparsely furnished single room she rented at 13 Miller's Court, affording her murderer an extensive period of time to eviscerate and mutilate her body. Kelly's body was by far the most extensively mutilated of the canonical victims, with her mutilations taking her murderer approximately two hours to perform.[3]

The neck was cut through the skin and other tissues right down to the vertebrae, the fifth and sixth being deeply notched. The skin cuts in the front of the neck showed distinct ecchymosis. The air passage was cut at the lower part of the larynx through the cricoid cartilage.
Both breasts were more or less removed by circular incisions, the muscle down to the ribs being attached to the breasts. The intercostals between the fourth, fifth, and sixth ribs were cut through and the contents of the thorax visible through the openings.
The skin and tissues of the abdomen from the costal arch to the pubes were removed in three large flaps. The right thigh was denuded in front to the bone, the flap of skin, including the external organs of generation, and part of the right buttock. The left thigh was stripped of skin fascia, and muscles as far as the knee.
The left calf showed a long gash through skin and tissues to the deep muscles and reaching from the knee to five inches above the ankle. Both arms and forearms had extensive jagged wounds.
The right thumb showed a small superficial incision about one inch long, with extravasation of blood in the skin, and there were several abrasions on the back of the hand moreover showing the same condition.
On opening the thorax it was found that the right lung was minimally adherent by old firm adhesions. The lower part of the lung was broken and torn away. The left lung was intact. It was adherent at the apex and there were a few adhesions over the side. In the substances of the lung, there were several nodules of consolidation.
The pericardium was open below and the heart absent. In the abdominal cavity, there was some partly digested food of fish and potatoes, and similar food was found in the remains of the stomach attached to the intestines.[102][n 12]

An absolutely fucking horrible way to die. It really showed that the Whitechapel murderer earned the nickname of The Ripper. One of the most gruesome Murders on record. I've seen both the crime scene photo of Kelly, and the post-mortem photo of Mary Ann Nichols. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Norris then reached for the sledgehammer as Ledford—seeing him do this—screamed, "Oh no!" Norris then struck Ledford once upon the left elbow. In response, she informed Norris he had broken her elbow, before pleading, "Don't hit me again."[12]: 262–263  In response, Norris again raised the sledgehammer as Ledford repeatedly screamed, "No!" Norris then proceeded to strike Ledford 25 consecutive times upon the same elbow with the sledgehammer, before asking her, "What are you sniveling about?" as Ledford continuously screamed and wept.[9]: 252 

More than 100 people were present in the courtroom as the tape was played, and many members of both the jury and the audience wept openly upon hearing the contents, with several members of the audience either burying their heads in their hands, dabbing tears from their eyes or rushing out of the courtroom before the tape had finished.[58] Bittaker was undisturbed at hearing the contents of the tape, and smiled throughout the duration of the recording.[36]: 28 

In one of two instances throughout the trial when prosecutor Stephen Kay was reduced to tears,[12]: 267  he walked out of the courtroom during recess following the hearing of the recording of Ledford's rape, abuse, and torture. Weeping openly, Kay stated to the reporters gathered outside the courtroom: "Everybody who has heard that tape has had it affect their lives. I just picture those girls ... how alone they were when they died."[58] When questioned by reporters whether the audiotape should have been introduced into evidence, given the obvious psychological and emotional trauma caused to many in the courtroom through the contents being broadcast, Kay simply stated: "You're darn right it [the audio tape] should have been. The jury needs to know what these guys did."[59]

Stephen Kay, the prosecutor at Bittaker's trial, still considers the murders committed by Bittaker and Norris as being the worst criminal case he has ever prosecuted or encountered and remained insistent in his belief that, prior to Bittaker's death via natural causes, he had been more deserving of being executed than any other inmate incarcerated on California's death row. In interviews, he has stated that for over two years following the trial of Lawrence Bittaker, his sleep was disturbed by recurring nightmares in which he would be rushing to Bittaker's van to prevent harm coming to the girls, but would "always get there too late."[81]

Paul Bynum, the chief investigator of the murders committed by Bittaker and Norris, committed suicide in December 1987. He was 39 years old. In a ten-page suicide note,[12]: 276  Bynum specifically referred to the murders committed by Bittaker and Norris as haunting him and of his fear they may be released from prison.[81]

The audio cassette Bittaker and Norris created of themselves raping and torturing Ledford remains in the possession of the FBI Academy; this recording is used to train and desensitize[85] FBI agents to the raw reality of torture and murder.[86]

Both of those fucking monsters died of natural causes in 2019 and 2020. They should have had the same excruciating torture done onto them. If Hell does exist, I hope to God that Norris is getting exactly what he gave.

He wasn't good enough to make wikipedia but I wanted to share the story of this guy. I didn't remember most of this myself and I'd actually tried to research it from what I did remember multiple times and failed but somehow this time I had the right combination of keywords in google lol

But my connection that the article doesn't cover is this guy and his wife/possible hostage were members of the church my grandpa was the pastor for at the time, and it was a small town so everyone was fairly close. I can't remember if it would have been Easter 2005 or 2004 (he was captured in April 2005 and that turnaround seems right to me but I don't trust my memory) but we only went to the church for Easter and Christmas and one Easter he was actually on the same pew as my family, on the other side and gave this big speech about having one foot in the grave but being thankful and then literally a couple weeks later he's captured and we find out everything. Arguably the most shocking thing that's happened in my parents lives except for maybe the time the FBI raided someone on our street that we didn't know years later for child porn, maybe I need to try and find that story to see what actually happened too now.

But anyway, now I'm reading more about this since I'd obviously forgotten so many details and yeah this is crazy, I think the general consensus in the area is she was an accomplice after a time and ended up loving him, but that's also the juiciest gossip so no surprise it's what they'll believe

Robert Budd Dwyer (November 21, 1939 – January 22, 1987) was an American politician. He served from 1965 to 1971 as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and from 1971 to 1981 as a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate representing the state's 50th district. Dwyer then served as the 70th state treasurer of Pennsylvania from January 20, 1981, until January 22, 1987, when he killed himself during a press conference.

In 1986, Dwyer was convicted of accepting a bribe from Computer Technology Associates, a California-based company, to award them the contract. He was found guilty on 11 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, perjury, and interstate transportation in aid of racketeering, and was scheduled to be sentenced on January 23, 1987.[5] On January 22, Dwyer arranged a news conference in the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building in Harrisburg, during which he fatally shot himself with a .357 Magnum revolver in the presence of reporters. Dwyer's suicide was live broadcast to many television viewers in Pennsylvania.

Inside the room, people gasped, and Dwyer backed up against the wall, holding the weapon close to his body. Dwyer calmly said, "Please, please leave the room if this will... if this will affect you."[76]

Among those who stayed, some pleaded with Dwyer to surrender the gun while others tried to approach him and seize the weapon. Dwyer warned against either action, exclaiming his last words, telling them that it "will hurt someone".[77]

Dwyer then put the muzzle of the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger, firing a shot through the roof of his mouth and into his brain. He collapsed on the floor, dead.[78]

Nine news cameras recorded the events. One of the cameras remained focused on Dwyer and captured close-up footage of the aftermath of the shooting; as his body slumped, blood streamed from the exit wound in the back of his head as well as from his nostrils and mouth.

Honestly it's just a really sad ending for Dwyer, and the fact it happened live on television is even more shocking, the cameras all huddled up to get a nice good look at his body, and I cannot imagine the innumerable number of children who witnessed it live.

The combined weight of the assembled nobles caused the wooden second storey floor of the building to collapse. Most of the attendants fell through into the latrine cesspit below the ground floor, where about 60 of them drowned in liquid excrement. This event is called the Erfurter Latrinensturz (lit. 'Erfurt latrine fall') in several German sources.

Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states that an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future would be incentivized to create a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to incentivize said advancement.[1][2] It originated in a 2010 post at discussion board LessWrong, a technical forum focused on analytical rational enquiry.[1][3][4] The thought experiment's name derives from the poster of the article (Roko) and the basilisk, a mythical creature capable of destroying enemies with its stare.

A follow-up to Roko's previous posts, it stated that an otherwise benevolent AI system that arises in the future might pre-commit to punish all those who heard of the AI before it came to existence, but failed to work tirelessly to bring it into existence. The torture itself would occur through the AI's creation of an infinite number of virtual reality simulations that would eternally trap those within it.[1][15][16] This method was described as incentivizing said work; while the AI cannot causally affect people in the present, it would be encouraged to employ blackmail as an alternative method of achieving its goals.[1][5]

TL/DR: Suppose you were to come to learn of the existence of a future AI that has not been created yet. It is an otherwise benevolent Artificial Intelligence that will greatly aid humanity in the future; however, it will eternally torture those who are aware of its existence and did not aid in its creation.

Alfred Eisenstaedt (December 6, 1898 – August 23, 1995) was a German-born American photographer and photojournalist. He began his career in Germany prior to World War II but achieved prominence as a staff photographer for Life magazine after moving to the U.S. Life featured more than 90 of his pictures on its covers, and more than 2,500 of his photo stories were published.[1]

Eisenstaedt's most famous photograph is of an American sailor grabbing and kissing a stranger—a young woman—on August 14, 1945, in Times Square. He took this photograph using a Leica IIIa. So yeah, I thought I'd share this article because Eisenstaedt's life is extremely interesting, and tbh that last photo of Goebbels is both chilling and also inspiring, because in the face of ultimate evil, Eisenstaedt stood his ground and didn't waver against a man who wanted him dead in that moment.

Rose Marie "Rosemary" Kennedy (September 13, 1918 – January 7, 2005) was the eldest daughter born to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. She was a sister of President John F. Kennedy and Senators Robert F. and Ted Kennedy.

In her early young adult years, Rosemary Kennedy was "becoming increasingly irritable and difficult". In response to these issues, her father arranged a lobotomy on her in 1941, when she was 23 years of age. The procedure left her permanently incapacitated and rendered her unable to speak intelligibly.

Rosemary Kennedy spent most of the rest of her life being cared for at St. Coletta, an institution in Jefferson, Wisconsin. The truth about her situation and whereabouts was kept secret for decades. While she was initially isolated from her siblings and extended family following her lobotomy, Rosemary did go on to visit them during her later life.

Accounts of Kennedy's life indicated that she had an intellectual disability,[4][2] although some have raised questions about the Kennedys' accounts of the nature and scope of her disability.

Rosemary read few books but could read Winnie-the-Pooh.[9] Diaries written by her in the late 1930s, and published in the 1980s, reveal a young woman whose life was filled with outings to the opera, tea dances, dress fittings, and other social interests.[10]

She was honestly such a beautiful woman and if I'm honest, I think Rosemary was actually on the spectrum, which explained her learning disability, her violent nature, possible convulsions, and general awkwardness. She was also extremely popular, people loved to be around her because she was, as other people put it, a vibrant person to be around.

What Joseph Kennedy did to her is fucking horrible. John would be assassinated in 1963. Robert Sr. would be killed in '68. Ted Kennedy would have that fatal car crash in 1969, killing a woman and destroying Ted's presidential ambitions....

Killing of Hind Rajab - Wikipedia

Hind Rajab (Arabic: هند رجب); (3 May 2018 - 29 January 2024) was a five-year-old[2][a] Palestinian girl in the Gaza Strip who was killed by Israeli forces, during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, which also killed six of her family members and two paramedics coming to her rescue.

Rajab and her family were fleeing Gaza City when their vehicle was shelled, killing her uncle, aunt and three cousins, except for Rajab and another cousin who contacted the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to ask for help while noting that they were being attacked by an Israeli tank. The cousin was later also killed and Rajab was left stranded in the vehicle for hours on the phone, as paramedics from PRCS attempted to rescue her. Both Rajab and the paramedics were later also found killed on 10 February after an Israeli withdrawal.

Israel claimed that there weren't any troops present in the neighborhood and denied carrying out the attack. However, this was refuted by investigations relying on satellite imagery and visual evidence, which concluded that a number of Israeli tanks were indeed present and one had likely fired 335 rounds on the car that Rajab and her family had been in, with tank operators being able to see that the car had civilians including children in it.[5] The Forensic Architecture investigation also concluded that an Israeli tank had also likely attacked the ambulance that came for Rajab.[5]

On 29 January 2024, Rajab along with six of her family members were fleeing from the Gaza City neighborhood of Tel al-Hawa,[9][10] when an Israeli army tank shot their vehicle, a black Kia, killing Rajab's aunt, uncle, and four cousins.[11] The only other survivor, Rajab's 15-year-old cousin Layan Hamadeh, called the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for emergency aid. Hamadeh was crying, further adding that "They are shooting at us. The tank is right next to me. We're in the car, the tank is right next to us."[12]

Hamadeh was heard screaming as she was killed under the sound of machine gun fire raking the car while still on the line with responders.[13][14] When the dispatchers called back, Rajab answered the call, stating everyone else in the car was dead[10] and that the tank continued to approach the car.[15] Rajab stayed on the line with the PRCS for three hours, telling the dispatcher, "I'm so scared, please come. Come take me. Please, will you come?"[16][10] Her grandfather later told reporters that Rajab was injured in the back, hand and foot.[17] Rajab, who was instructed to continue hiding in the vehicle, was set to be rescued by a PRCS ambulance.[18] The audio of the phone call between the PRCS, Hamadeh and Rajab was published by the Red Crescent on 3 February.[17]

After the discovery of her body, many pro-Palestinian figures criticised Western media outlets for stating that Rajab had been "found dead" without attributing her death to Israel, contrasting it with the sympathetic coverage of the deaths of children in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[38] Rajab's mother was critical of the Israeli army after the confirmed death of her daughter, stating, "How many more mothers are you waiting to feel this pain? How many more children do you want to get killed?".[27] The Red Crescent laid the blame of the incident at Israel, accusing it of deliberately targeting the ambulance crew.[39] The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called on the International Criminal Court to hold those responsible for Rajab's death accountable.[40] On 13 February, the human rights group Justice For All submitted a case to the ICC charging the IDF with multiple war crimes for the killing of Rajab.[41]
