- According to a recent interview with On Portland, Randy Couture is interested in dropping to 205 and facing UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida. Couture stated the following…
“[Machida's] got a very unique style – it’s very unorthodox. He stays pretty true to his karate background and makes it work for him. He’s got great footwork, great balance. He’s very patient. I think he’s terrific,†said Couture of Machida after flashing a coy smile when the subject initially came up. I could certainly go back down to 205 if that was something (the UFC) wanted to see. I’d be interested in competing against him. I think he’s a tremendous competitor and somebody I’d like to fight.â€

Kind of odd to see them both go at it imo.
Thoughts?

I heard this about a week ago and if Couture can beat Nogueira then I don't think there's much wrong with him dropping weight. It is probably better for him to drop weight a bit anyway as he's getting older and I think Couture Vs Machida would be awesome.

If the two were to fight you know that Machida is much more talented and despite Couture being much more experienced he still hasn't faced anyone who is remotely similar to Machida which is why I am so intruged. Tbh it would be proably one of the most boring title matches in UFC but not in a bad way because you would know both guys would come into the match with amazing game plans (and probably plan B's too) and would probably just keep cancelling each other out.

Now, of course the chance this fight happens are probably slim but I would personally love to see it. Imagine the so-called "past it" veteran Couture beating "the future of MMA" Machida, that would be so epic words don't give it enough justice. Now the chances of Couture winning are verrry low but it would just be probably one of the greatest upsets in UFC history. But in the likely event of Machida winning, I still don't think it'll be an easy ride for him and there'll be a few scares on the way if Couture has his way.

Couture Vs Machida would be like the Brock Vs Kurt of MMA imo.

i wouldnt say machida is much more talented, almost every one of cotoure's fights in the ufc has been a title fight. i would say machida is in his prime though while cotoure is near his end. and im glad to see cotoure got his lazy ass working out again becuase he should be in the 205 class where he had been almost his whole career, there isnt a fight for him at heavyweight anymore after his loss to brock, before then the fedor fight was talked about but its not gonna happen anytime soon.

and i wouldnt call machida the future of MMA seeing how going back to when rampage won the title its only been successfully defended once. and shogun isnt a scab either, he has a very good chance of beating machida. and i dont even think machida is the best in his weight class, i cant be convinced that he is better than rampage, shogun, silva, even vitor belfort(who's last 4 wins have been impressive).
lets see him defend his title first before calling him the future

This would make no sense, considering he went on record saying he wanted the first crack at Fedor if he came to the UFC.

^^^that was before Lesnar overpowered him. He made that comment when he was the top HW in the world, it made sense he would want a piece of Fedor, but that dream fight is dead. Now it's all about Lesnar vs. Fedor.

If Couture could go back to LHW, that would be great. Let's face it, Couture would just be hovering around in the HW division until he meets Lesnar again and gets smashed. Couture's size is against him as a HW, but it's definitely a plus as a LHW. He could have so many more competitive matches in LHW and a better chance for victory at LHW. Just look at these possible matchups...

Couture vs. Rampage
Couture vs. Forrest
Couture vs. Machida (obviously)
Couture vs. Rashad Evans
HELL...

Couture vs. Anderson Silva.

DAMN.

Dana should tell Couture to drop down for sure. This is where the competition is at!
