Court McGee vs. Nick Ring rematch targeted for UFC 149 in Calgary
Court McGee will get a shot at redemption.
McGee (13-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will fight fellow middleweight Nick Ring (12-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at this summer's UFC 149 event, sources close to the show today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
The fighters first met in an opening round matchup on "TUF 11" that Ring won via hotly contested majority decision. However, McGee later won the reality-show tournament when he got a second life with an injury-replacement slot.
UFC 149 takes place July 21 at the 19,000-seat Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo headlines against an opponent to be announced.
UFC 149's main card airs on pay-per-view, and FX and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims. It's not clear where McGee vs. Ring will end up on the lineup.
McGee recently saw an eight-fight win streak come to an end with an upset loss to Constantinos Philippou at UFC on FX 2. McGee rallied late, but Philippou controlled the early action and earned the unanimous decision. Prior to the defeat, McGee had picked up submission victories over Kris McCray (to win "TUF 11") and Ryan Jensen, as well as a decision victory over Dongi Yang, in UFC competition.
The Pit Elevated fighter and AMR Group client now fights Ring, who saw his perfect record ruined at UFC 135 with a unanimous-decision loss to Tim Boetsch. Prior to the September defeat, Ring had posted a 12-0 record, which included victories over Riki Fukuda (hotly contested decision) and James Head (submission) in the UFC. The Calgary-based fighter and BDB Martial Arts team member now will return from a 10-month layoff.
