Daniel Bryan and Kane will most likely defend the tag team titles against The Shield at Extreme Rules, where their partnership very well may come to an end.
The match has not been officially announced, but every time The Shield makes an appearance on Raw orSmackDown, Team Hell No has made it their business to get involved. The Shield has never been defeated as a group and it doesn’t look as though that is going to end anytime soon. The Shield has beaten all of the top WWE Superstars, including JohnCena, Ryback, Sheamus, Randy Orton and even The Undertaker.
However, one topic of conversation that many WWE fans need to start thinking about is the future of The Shield. Because they have defeated the top stars in the company already, where do they go from here?
The most logical situation is for them to begin winning championship gold, and that may very well begin at Extreme Rules. The Shield could easily use the Freebird Rule while holding the tag titles, which would allow any two members to defend the belt.
At the same time, many WWE fans have been waiting for Team Hell No to break up and go their separate ways from the very start of their partnership. Kane and Daniel Bryan were a dysfunctional pairing and were clearly not going to be partners forever. Both are former world champions and Bryan is still in the prime of his career. Losing the tag titles to The Shield would make for the perfect situation to have Bryan and Kane split. This can be done in a way that sees Daniel Bryan turn on Kane and join The Shield.
Daniel Bryan has a lot in common with Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. All four of these Superstars came to the WWE through NXT. Bryan’s path through NXTwas very different than those of Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns, but it was still NXT. Bryan, Ambrose and Rollins were all top independent stars prior to signing with WWEas well. In fact, Bryan has squared off against both Rollins and Ambrose in different independent wrestling promotions.
While some may have been expecting Kane to turn on Daniel Bryan, a situation where it is the other way around would be much more intriguing. Kane had been a big red monster for the past 15 years and if he were to turn on Bryan, it would be too obvious. It would be too much of a repeat in his character and could come off as very stale.
Bryan, on the other hand, is perceived as someone who should return to the main-event level he was at in 2012. After winning the world heavyweight title at the end of 2011, Bryan’s popularity rose and his character only became more prominent after dropping the title. Bryan could be seen as underutilized in his tag team with Kane since he is capable of being a top singles star.
By turning on Kane and joining The Shield, Bryan can return to the main event as a singles star. Plus, The Shield would show more of a purpose to their gimmick. They are unstoppable as a team and have accomplished everything they can, other than capturing gold. The Shield’s gimmick and storyline needs to lead somewhere and Daniel Bryan could be that somewhere.
What do you think? Could Bryan turn on Kane and join The Shield? What are your thoughts on this scenario?
