Cormier and Velasquez are close friends and teammates at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, Calif., and Cormier has no desire to fight him.

But aside from not wanting to fight his friend, Cormier is excited by the possibility of facing UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

"I'm not saying that's what I want to do (move to light heavyweight) right now," Cormier told ESPN.com. "A lot depends on what happens between Cain and (current UFC heavyweight champion) Junior dos Santos. "

Dropping to 205 pounds "is a potential plan B if Cain becomes champion again, which I think he will," Cormier said. "Imagine that: Me and Jones standing across the cage from one another. That would be crazy because you know I'm putting him on his back."

I wouldn't want to fight Velasquez right now either teammate or not. I'm not sure about this though, I'd like to see what he can do at heavyweight honestly.

What a fucking punk, seriously.

You've just won a HEAVYWEIGHT Grand Prix, beating one of the best HW's in the game in your last fight, and you are gonna bitch out just because "I dont want to give my friend a boo boo when I punch him".

If he wants to move to 205, keep him in Strikeforce. After all the deal was only the heavyweights would be merged into the UFC. Lets see how long he keeps his moral stance then.

I agree with Cork, a punk move.

I hate this team mate shit, it's an individual sport. Cain or their camp are not splitting up their money between everyone on the team.

Cormier needs to stick to heavyweight no matter what. Dropping down cause he doesn't wanna fight Cain? He just know that Cain would tear him to shreds. So rather than face defeat he'd rather punk out and move down and get elbowed into oblivion by Jones.

I don't think that Dana White would let him. If he comes to UFC it is as a Heavyweight and he will have to fight whoever they select for him. I don't understand the not fighting a team mate deal either, surely you know when you train somewhere that you may have to face each other in the future.
