Conor McGregor vs. Cole Miller confirmed for UFC Fight Night 46 headliner in Dublin
A long-rumored featherweight bout is set for the UFC’s return to Dublin, and it will serve as the night’s main event.
UFC officials today announced Conor McGregor (14-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Cole Miller (21-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) will square off at the July 19 event at Dublin’s O2 Arena. MMAjunkie subsequently confirmed the bout will serve as the evening’s headlining contest.
The event, co-headlined by a welterweight bout between Gunnar Nelson and Ryan LaFlare, is expected to air in the U.S. on UFC Fight Pass.
Miller was unaware the fight was confirmed when contacted today by MMAjunkie, saying he hadn’t received a bout agreement, but welcomed news he would be fighting Dublin native McGregor six months after calling him out in the octagon.
Going into McGregor’s native territory, Miller expects to play the bad guy. In his words: “All the fans love him. He’s so great. I’ll play whatever role I’ve got to play. I’m just trying to fight, trying to make some money, trying to choke some necks and cash some checks. Whatever.â€
McGregor wasn’t immediately available for comment.
Although the two sparred online for several months, the featherweight bout’s confirmation was delayed by McGregor’s health. The Irish fighter tore his ACL in a winning effort against Max Holloway this past August and was forced into rehab. Miller, meanwhile, continued to push for the bout.
Miller, a veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter 5,†is riding back-to-back wins over Andy Ogle and Sam Sicilia. McGregor owns back-to-back UFC wins, as well, after a first-round TKO in his UFC debut one year ago.
The latest UFC Fight Night 46 card now includes:
Conor McGregor vs. Cole Miller
Ryan LaFlare vs. Gunnar Nelson
Ian McCall vs. Brad Pickett
Ilir Latifi vs. Tom Lawlor
Phil Harris vs. Neil Seery
Cody Donovan vs. Nikita Krylov
