Colton Smith vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira slated for UFC Fight Night in San Antonio
A lightweight bout between Colton Smith (3-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and UFC newcomer Carlos Diego Ferreira (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is the latest addition to the recently announced UFC Fight Night in San Antonio event.
UFC officials today announced the bout.
The event takes place June 28 at AT&T Center in Texas. The bulk of the card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
The only other bout announced for the card is a headliner between featherweight contenders Cub Swanson (20-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Jeremy Stephens (23-9 MMA, 10-8 UFC).
Smith looks to halt a two-fight skid. After winning “The Ultimate Fighter 16″ with a decision victory over Mike Ricci, the active-duty member of the U.S. Army has suffered stoppage losses to Robert Whittaker and Michael Chiesa. The 26-year-old’s most recent bout, which was part of November’s “UFC Fight Night 31: UFC Fight for the Troops 3″ card, marked the former welterweight’s debut at lightweight.
The undefeated Ferreira makes his promotional debut with a perfect 9-0 record that includes five submission victories. Most recently, the 29-year-old Texan has competed for the Legacy FC promotion, where he’s defeated notables Carlo Prater, Chris Feist and Jorge Patino. He won the Legacy FC title with the decision win over well-respected big-show vet Patino.
