Paul Collingwood has defended England's decision to split the captaincy ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka.
The Durham all-rounder was appointed as a specialist one-day captain after Peter Moores took the helm in April.
Having led England to their first major series victory in the sub-continent since 1987 in the one-dayers in early October, Collingwood is now preparing to return under the leadership of Michael Vaughan for the Test series.
Despite criticism of the separation of the roles from former coach Duncan Fletcher, Collingwood is backing Vaughan to carry on where he left off.
Experience
He told Sky Sports News: "It is nice to have a bit of a break. Obviously we've had a few weeks off now and to go into a Test series where I can concentrate on scoring runs and not get too many headaches off the pitch is great.
"Things don't change too much. We're both moving in the same direction. We want to take the teams to the next level.
"I've still got a hell of a lot to learn from Michael. He's one of the best captains England have ever had and in many ways he's the master.
"I'm still enjoying playing under him and he realises I'm not after his job at the moment."
Inspiration
Collingwood also insists injured all-rounder Andrew Flintoff will return for England, after undergoing what is thought to be make-or-break surgery on his ankle.
"He's out in America," he added. "Hopefully he can come back 100 per cent fit and be 100 per cent Freddie.
"The England cricket team needs him back. He's a massive player for us, so we all look forward to him regaining that fitness and getting back out on the park."
