Stardust.png

– Cody Rhodes posted the following to his personal Twitter account, noting that he had asked for his WWE release….

What does everyone think about this news? If it's true, this is another case of lost potential.

He's an absolute star that's been wasted due to WWE's poor booking. He's excelled in every role he's even played in WWE and deserved a lot more than he has ever been given.

I will agree that he has done great at everything he's been handed. And I really thought at the tail end of 2013 after he and Goldust beat The Shield that he may have been in line for a push but it never came.

If this is it for him in WWE, he had a good career. It's a shame we never found out if he could've been a top draw but what can you do.

Best wishes son of a son of a plumber

If it means I no longer have to see that god awful, cringeworthy Stardust character ever again then so be it.

Shame, but I'm happy that he's leaving on his own terms. I enjoyed everything he has done since being in WWE (yes I even liked Stardust), but I think my favorite gimmicks from him were "Dashing" Cody Rhodes and the one he had after where he wore a mask.

Dude was a great character actor, had a solid run but he wasn't his old man. If it was a different era, he probably would've been Steamboat.

Can't say he wasn't utilized better, I never viewed him a top guy, but that's just my opinion.

can't say i'm surprised he should have turned back into Cody once Dusty passed and ran with it. I don't see him going to TNA or New Japan.

So basically a TL DR version is that he'd been pitching for the last 6 months to return as Cody and nobody wanted to listen.

Cody definitely implies he's going somewhere to wrestle.

I think he could do a lot of good working for Ring of Honor and New Japan.

The WWE is so loaded with new talent that have been trained entirely by the WWE system, guys like Cody are even more expendable. Bit of a shame though because the guy does have a certain "it" factor that makes him entertaining with the right material. He also has a proven track record of reliability. He's been around almost ten years and he's been mostly healthy. The guy may have not been destined to be the guy, but he certainly could have had a few runs at the main event, at least as one of those guys that have a program going after the champ.

I get where he's coming from. If he's financially set enough, makes sense to go chase after ambitions while he's still young and able-bodied. If the WWE was no longer able to offer what he wanted, why not go for it elsewhere, whether as a rassler or pursuing a new career.
