The cast of Street Fighter continues to expand as sources tell Nexus Point News that Cody Rhodes is in talks to portray Guile.
Rhodes will potentially portray Guile, who first appeared in Street Fighter II (1991). Guile has become one of the key players of the series, best known for his flat-top haircut, special "Sonic Boom" projectile attack, and iconic theme song. As a colonel in the United States Air Force, Guile utilizes both military combat techniques and a stoic sense of discipline in his mission, which is to avenge his close friend's death at the hands of M. Bison and his Shadaloo terrorist organization. Despite the weight of duty on his shoulders, Guile still remains a family man at heart, balancing both his relentless pursuit of justice and a life at home with his wife and daughter. Guile was originally portrayed by Jean-Claude Van Damme in 1994’s Street Fighter.
Rhodes is best known for his wrestling career which began in 2006 and has wrestled for the WWE and AEW, which he co-founded. As an actor, he made his debut in Syfy’s Warehouse 13. He later went on to have a recurring role on the CW’s Arrow as Derek Sampson, a drug dealer who terrorized Star City. Rhodes can next be seen starring in The Naked Gun.
Street Fighter is a series of fighting games, with the first installment being released in 1987. The games center around a global fighting tournament organized by M. Bison, the leader of the evil organization Shadaloo. The latest installment in the game, Street Fighter 6, was released in 2023 and won “Best Fighting Game” at the 2023 Game Awards.
Street Fighter is set to be directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) and the latest draft was written by Dalan Musson (Captain America: Brave New World). Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji are set to star as Ken and Ryu, respectively. Jason Momoa will portray Blanka, Roman Reigns will portray Akuma, 50 Cent will portray Balrog, Callina Liang will portray Chun-Li, Andrew Schulz will portray Dan Hibiki, and Orville Peck will portray Vega. David Dastmalchian is set to portray the lead antagonist, M. Bison. Danny and Michael Philippou were originally attached to direct the film before falling off. Legendary Pictures is developing the film with Capcom and is set to be released by Sony Pictures.
