CM Punk: Was Given The Ball, Did Nothing With It

Sorry but it's true , if surpassing Randy Orton as the number 2 guy is a success then I guess I am wrong. I hear a lot of people complaining about the part timers but not enough people questioning why WWE has not only done so well with them but how much better the product and business is in when the part timers show up . Does not matter how we dice it folks business comes first and foremost in the wwe anyways lets look at what Punk has done since his infamous shoot before money in the bank .

- Defeated Cena
- Record setting 434 day reign with the title
- Headlined two pay per views with the GOAT The Rock
- Been the new face of raw for god knows how long now
- Been thrown in with the undertaker to threaten the streak
- Been given a platform to shine in ring wise and promo wise

I'll admit Punk is a fantastic all round wrestler but what more could the WWE give him ? From what I have heard , I could be wrong but he has been the lowest rated champion since the turn of the millennium for raw ratings . People complain about Triple H beating him , but if he beat HHH then not only would he have that great reign , and multiple victories over Cena that would of made him booked stronger than the horrible Super Cena Era .

Anyways , lets debate what are your opinions and don't be shy to bash me if you feel I am totally clueless here .

- Record setting 434 day reign with the title - He was often in the midcard for this, he only mainevented I think 3 PPVs and they were with Rock and Cena, he could have held the IC title for that long with how he was shoved down the card.
- Headlined two pay per views with the GOAT The Rock - So? How does this justify him being given the ball when he's booked as a midcard act for the other 10.
- Been the new face of raw for god knows how long now - Nope all Cena, if he was the new face he'd have taken that ball and scored a touchdown.
- Been thrown in with the undertaker to threaten the streak - In a throwaway feud, it's all about Rock / Cena and Brock Taker for the WWE's priority, they get the big segments.
- Been given a platform to shine in ring wise and promo wise - and he has, he's had one bad match which as a superface for over a year is an incredible streak, his promos are the same. They cut his character's balls off and he still outshined everyone else.

I agree with all this. Over the last year, Punk was booked better but still not properly. His title reign was largely a waste due to how low-card it was booked and his feud with the Rock did nothing, despite what some people think. The Rock didn't make Punk look credible, he made Punk look like a temporary champion who's no longer needed anymore. He made Punk and the title look disposable.

In the end, I wouldn't say he was given the ball at all. I think they kept the ball on Cena and now they're letting the Rock hold it for while. All things considered, Punk done the best with what he was given and that shouldn't be underestimated. He achieved dueling chants with the Rock as one of the most despicable heels in recent history - who else can say that aside from maybe SCSA after WM17?

Booked as a midcard champion, given a smiley babyface character for one half of the reign and mostly repetitive promos on the other half. Still wrestled great matches. Don't see what else he could've done.

That is pretty weird :/ like exactly word for word and everything.

Besides Punk's done what he can with what he's had. As was mentioned above he's only main evented 3 PPV's as champion. John Cena's probably main evented more not as a champion and if he was. You'd be damn sure he would be main eventing every single one.

It all boils down to CM Punk is not the rock, he's not hogan, he's not even Stone Cold. He is CM Punk, and he doesn't have the mainstream appeal.
