Alistair Overeem and Brock Lesnar aren't the only ones booking fights today.
MMAJunkie.comhas confirmed with sources close to the event that Ben Henderson (14-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Clay Guida (29-11 MMA, 9-5 UFC) have verbally agreed to fight at UFC on FOX 1, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.
Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole first reported the matchup.
Featuring a heavyweight title fight between current champ Cain Velasquez and top contender Junior Dos Santos, "UFC on FOX 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos" takes place Nov. 12 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
The evening's main event airs on FOX during a one-hour special. Broadcast plans for the remainder of the card have yet to be announced. However, UFC president Dana White recently assured MMA fans they would have access to the evening's full card and that details were being worked out.
Guida's manager, John Fosco, two weeks ago pitched the idea of a bout with Henderson to MMAjunkie.com. He believes Guida's recent victory over Anthony Pettis – coupled with wins over Takanori Gomi, Rafael dos Anjos and Shannon Gugerty – have earned the fighter a shot at the belt. But with champ Frankie Edgar scheduled to fight Gray Maynard – and fellow contender Melvin Guillard booked to fight Joe Lauzon – Fosco believes Guida vs. Henderson makes sense.
Henderson's manager, Malki Kawa, quickly responded in kind and also suggested the two fighters risk their trademark coifs on the matchup.
"Dana White always gives the fans what they want, and I hope he'll grant them this fight," Kawa said. "And John Fosco sounds pretty confident in his guy. Well, I'm very confident in mine. The last manager I made a friendly wager with had to pay up, so I think John should step up, as well. We can make it a hair match – loser shaves his head. What do you say, John?"
Hair match or not, the winner will certainly find himself in an enviable position in the UFC's lightweight division.
