I've been hearing a lot of hype from a friend about some classic movies that he says are great. We were talking about the AFI top 100 list and he recommended some of the movies to me. I've seen a few of the movies he listed. Those are in bold. If anyone has seen any of the other movies, what did you think of them? The reason I ask is because he recommended Taxi Driver and A Clockwork Orange and I thought they were bad...see below.

Okay, here's the list:
Schindler's List
Citizen Kane
The Godfather 1 & 2 I love both of these.
Lawrence of Arabia
Raging Bull
The Wizard of Oz I've seen this about 100 times....love it.
The Bridge Over The River Kwai
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Taxi Driver I completely get this movie, and I love the idea behind it, but it's just so bland and boring.
The Deer Hunter
Forrest Gump Great
North by Northwest
Duck Soup - I'm sure this one should be good since it's the Marx Brothers.
Unforgiven
A Clockwork Orange Same as Taxi Driver....loved the idea, but I didn't like it.
Blade Runner
Platoon Awesome....I'd probably find myself in Sheen's position if that ever happened to me.

Schindler's List is good. It's a pretty long movie though.

Lawrence of Arabia- thats good but its kinda old school movie. If you dont like historic environment, you wont like it. But if you like that theme of scene, then go for it.

Old school is fine...a couple of movies that I didn't see on the AFI list (they may be on there) is The Ten Commandments, even though I'm not religious, I still thought it was awesome. And The Manchurian Candidate...the original. The remake was bad.

Schindler's List

Black and white historical drama. I know it is a classic but I was very meh about the whole thing.

Citizen Kane

Rosebud... haven't seen it

The Godfather 1 & 2

I have refused to watch these since I read the Godfather novel.

Raging Bull

DeNiro as Jake LaMotta. Fuck Balboa this is the boxing film.

The Bridge Over The River Kwai

Kinda seen it. Not a huge fan of old war movies.

Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Watch it, watch it, watch it.

Taxi Driver I completely get this movie, and I love the idea behind it, but it's just so bland and boring.

Get out. ;p

Unforgiven

Greatest western ever made. So intense.

A Clockwork Orange Same as Taxi Driver....loved the idea, but I didn't like it.

Book was better. Althouth the language is fucked.

The Godfather movies follow the book pretty well (Or at least the first one does and half of the second one). The one thing it does do better than the book is cut out the stories about that chick Sonny had been having an affair with and the story about Johnny Fontaine and his family. I couldn't stand those stories.
