By having him win the title the way he did last night, they made him look really weak. He's struggling to win against Del Rio, which is fine, suddenly Edge appears, honks a horn, and suddenly Christian's your World Heavyweight Champion?

I mean, this would have been cool with me had it been months down the line and no one expected Edge to show up, but for them to schedule him to do this immediately seemed pretty dumb to me. It's like saying, Christian wouldnt be champion if not for Edge's injury, and he STILL wouldn't be champion if it weren't for Edge.

That being said, I wanted to raise the question of, "Would Christian have eventually won the World Title if Edge hadn't retired?"

Would he finally be able to get the job done without Edge?

Also, anyone think that Edge and WWE knew about his test results long before Wrestlemania, yet Edge wanted to wrestle one more match at Mania?

Sure, you can say, "Well, if they knew that then, they would have had him win the belt at Mania!" But check out last night, they didn't even give Del Rio the strap when they had the perfect opportunity to, so you cant be sure of that. Also, if you remember the match at Mania, I personally didnt think it was that great and it seemed like Edge was really off, but that was just me.

Christian got a pretty odd push prior to Mania, something that would signify that he would be involved in the World Title match, despite not being involved in it. Suddenly we find out that Edge is injured and has to drop the title after Christian had been getting a huge push which included beating ADR. Coincidence? Maybe. I'm just not so sure is all.

How did last night make Christian look weak?! He had Del Rio beat on his own, was moments away from a clean win, and there was a run in by Brodus Clay. After the distraction by Clay, Del Rio took advantage of the situation and was about to steal the win. Edge came out for a quick distraction, after the fact that Christian was cheated already, and helped his life long friend. Imo it made Christian look great and made his first ever World Title win seem that much more important and real emotional since Edge was there.

Sure it made it seem emotional, but you can't help but think two things as I noted in my post.

1) Had Edge NOT gotten injured, would Christian ever wind up coming anywhere near that belt? What are the chances that he would have been moved to Raw during the draft that was scheduled to be later in the year? If that was the case he would have moved even further away from ever touching that.

2) Had Edge NOT gave ADR a distraction, would Christian had won last night? That's the part that makes him look weak in my mind.

I do think that even if Edge wasn't injured Christian would have won the title. He had received the biggest push so far on Smackdown before WM27 and was beating Del Rio, the number one contender and Royal Rumble winner, clean in Smackdown mainevents. If Edge stayed on like normal then I think Del Rio would have won the title at Extreme Rules and then Christian would have moved into a feud with Del Rio. By the end of the year Christian would have won the title even if Edge was still wrestling.

I had no issue with them booking Edge to come out and distract Del Rio helping Christian get the win. Christian was going to win before Brodus Clay came out so he would have won without outside help. Having Edge come out there evened things up and made the moment more special that Edge was there and was able to help Christian. Plus it made Del Rio look strong which I think was part of the reason behind it, Del Rio is going to be a top guy on RAW so this makes him look strong.

WWE and Edge didn't know about the severity of the injury until after WM27. Supposedly he did some tests before and after the event but they didn't know the full extent of the injury until after.

Plus Del Rio winning the title here would have made no sense since he is now on RAW. If he was kept on Smackdown then I am pretty sure he would have won it.

WWE was teasing Christian vs Edge for the WHC in their backstage promos as Christian was looking at the belt. I'm sure Christian would get it eventually, it just came quicker with Edge retiring.

Last night, Christian certainly didn't look weak, and that's for sure. In my favorite match of the night, Christian and Rio were working to the extreme, and both looked very strong. Plus Christian was supposed to grab the belt earlier, but Brodus Clay interrupted for Rio, so Edge balanced out the inequality at the end.

The only disappointment was the crowd. Maybe it's just Tampa people being jaded to wrestling action, but even something as symbolic as Christian on top of a ladder as the first time WHC felt less significant with a quick loss of reaction from the crowd. It's really a shame (although the crowd was the loudest during this match, and it also chanted "Christian").
