Chris Leben cut nearly 21 pounds in 24 hours to make weight for his fight with Mark Munoz, Fighters Only was told ahead of last night’s bout.

The 31-year old middleweight had “a terrible weight cutâ€￾ and was in such bad shape before the weigh ins that medical staff were keeping a very close eye on him.

A source close to Leben told Fighters Only on Friday that Leben had been left “shatteredâ€￾ by the amount of weight he had to cut on weigh-in day.

This was the last fight he had before getting suspended for one year for a failed drug test, in which he tested positive for oxycodone and oxymorphone.

21 pounds in 24 hours? What in the world was he doing up until then? Why wasn't he dieting properly? What was up with the training? 21 pounds is not acceptable.

I don't know what's crazier the fact that he had to lose all that weight to make weight or the fact that he managed to find a way to damn near do it.

Like i know it's normal sometimes for a fighter to be 2 or 3 pounds over for a fight but to be 21 pounds over weight for a fight is just ridiculous, especially for Chris as he fought so much, 6 times since 2010.

His support staff shouldn't have let him do this because there is no healthy way to cut 21 pounds in one day. Really bad for a professional fighter to be so far out of shape especially since he is basically a UFC veteran and knows the system very well.
