Chris Jericho talks AEW/NXT head to head night

NXT drew a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demo on the night while AEW Dynamite did a 0.26 in the same category. Jericho recently told The Messenger that WWE won by bringing in top stars, something the company isn't able to do on a regular basis.

"You know, you can only bring in Cena and Undertaker and Cody and everybody else so much because nobody wants to work on their secondary show all the time," Jericho said. "And it was a fun little, 'Hey, F-you AEW.' I didn’t even really worry about it."

Jericho continued to say that he pitched Tony Khan to counter this by bringing in celebrities who have appeared on AEW programming in the past.

"I told Tony, 'Well, if you want to fire back, bring in Shaq and Snoop Dogg and those types of guys, Mike Tyson,'" Jericho continued. "But Tony didn't do that. We relied on our show and our guys and our girls, and that's the way it's always been for us."

NXT's 0.30 rating in the key demo was the fourth-highest rating in the history of the show, trailing only the first three episodes to air on the USA Network beginning in September 2019. It was just the second time NXT has beaten AEW in the key demo when they've gone head-to-head.

"This would be like a football game where you bring in all of your top stars from years prior and beat the other team 30-26," Jericho continued. "It's like a video game. Let's bring in Tom Brady from five years ago and then play him for one game against Chris Jericho. OK, you guys won, but you only won 30-26."

The gap between the two shows in terms of total viewership was wider than in the key demo. NXT averaged 921,000 viewers on the USA Network that night while AEW averaged 609,000 viewers on TBS.

"So, don't get too far up your own ass because you didn't do that good of a job as far as crushing us. And our show was better than theirs, quite frankly. So, it doesn't bother me."

Yeah see ppl like to play revisionist on Jericho because he use to tout aews ratings over raw, conveniently forgetting how wwe raw had drizzling shit ratings during aew peak ratings boom. Of course the competitor brand would push that especially in kayfabe where Jericho yknow....was a heel as well.

Yeah that's not all what he said at the time lmao raw was doing shit ratings n aew beat them in the demo. He said he could see one day dynamite beating them consistently. He wasn't wrong, if wwe didn't pick up the slack, they would have. Everyone in those threads even the most pro aew folks said aew was near peak n if wwe started trying the gap would re widen.
