Chael Sonnen said on an episode of UFC Tonight that he would debut at light heavyweight inside the Octagon against former UFC championForrest Griffin. However, that might not be the case.
While promoting an event this past weekend for Full Contact Fighting Federation, Sonnen wouldn't say for sure that his next fight would be with Griffin.

"We'll see," said Sonnen in an interview withMMAjunkie.com. "There's going to be some news coming out on me soon. We'll see how things play out. Stay tuned."

It is quite well-known by now that Sonnen offered to step in and face UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 151. Jones declined the bout, and the card was scrapped.

UFC president Dana White has said that Sonnen would not move right into a title fight in the division, but cited his willingness to step up on short notice and fight "Bones" when no one else was changed his mind.

Interesting. Maybe they'll just throw him Jones anyways. Don't think it'll happen on the year end card though.

Chael gets what he wants, just off box office alone.

Not saying it's fair and square, but thems bidness.

Hmmm... I think I could potentially see... Machida vs. Sonnen. Since Sonnen would step up and Machida declined. New contender fight?

It's possible, makes sense. Especially for Chael, if he can't take out Anderson then he'll attempt to take out another Blackhouse member.

Sonnen will probably just get guaranteed title shot. People gotta realize casuals don't give a shit about Chael's record. Here is another good sport reference for people who are american football fans.

Tyrann Mathui. He was a solid corner for LSU, but he did drugs outside of sports. No casual cared about that shit just because he had sick nickname called the honey badger. So which means he was more cool to watch because of his nickname.

So hardcore fans will bitch that Chael gets the title shot he dosen't deserve, but hey he makes money for the UFC and in all honesty that is the most important thing in running a business. Making money.

Good to see him moving up that division especially since he has had two shots at Silva and couldn't beat him. This would open up plenty of exciting fights for UFC and a Sonnen/Machida fight first up would be a great way to start Sonnen as a LHW.
