Dana Becker said:
fightline.com - Chael Sonnen joins Wanderlei Silva as fighters pulled from July’s UFC 175 card. ESPN is reporting that Sonnen failed his pre-fight drug test, given to him last month.

Sonnen tested positive for two illegal substances – anastrozole and clomiphene. Silva was removed from a scheduled fight with Sonnen after declining to take a test, with Vitor Belfort tabbed as his replacement.

“UFC officials acknowledge irregularities in a recent random test,â€￾ the promotion stated. “Chael is planning on addressing the matter this afternoon.â€￾

Sonnen (28-14-1) is set to appear on FOX Sports 1 at 6 p.m. ET tonight with UFC president Dana White, and FightLine will provide complete coverage of that announcement. Previously, the 37-year-old had been on TRT and was suspended once before in 2010 for having elevated levels of testosterone.

The Nevada Athletic Commission is likely to suspend Sonnen for the failed test.

During his interview on FS1, Sonnen stated plans to appeal the ruling. A meeting with the NAC is planned for later this month. He added that the substances he took are not performance-enhancing or anabolic, and that he has been trying to reach out to the commission but has not heard back.

White in his portion of the segment said that Sonnen was on the drugs in question to help get his wife pregnant, which was successful.

Wow, who saw that coming?

I highly doubt it.

He tested for positive for elevated levels of testosterone in post fight samples against Anderson Silva, and as far as I'm concerned they're still friends.

A video explanation can be found here:

It turns out he went on some medications which part of the ingredients were synthetic testosterone. Wouldn't be the first I heard of seeing as steroids have been a key ingredient in most pain killers.
