In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Cesaro has either signed or verbally agreed to a new contract with WWE
"There have been reports going around regarding the status of Cesaro," Meltzer wrote. "Either he signed or verbally agreed to a new deal a few weeks ago. The gauntlet match that Adam Pearce won on SmackDown, the babyface star making spot of running through the field and then getting screwed at the end was an idea of [Daniel] Bryan, and his pick for the spot was Cesaro. However, since Cesaro hadn’t signed yet, it was switched to [Shinsuke] Nakamura, so Cesaro was going to be the face originally. But even if some thought Nakamura got over in that match, and without live fans there’s really no way to know, since he was a replacement, the plan wasn’t to follow up much which is why he’s basically in the same spot, only on the face side."
The 40-year-old Cesaro (real name Claudio Castagnoli) defeated Daniel Bryan on the January 15 episode of SmackDown and defeated Dolph Ziggler on the January 22 episode of the show. On last week's Royal Rumble go-home show, he was on the losing side of a 10-man tag team main event. Bryan, Big E, Nakamura, Otis & Sheamus defeated AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, Cesaro, The Miz & John Morrison.
Cesaro entered the men's Royal Rumble match at number 28 and was eliminated by Braun Strowman.
Cesaro has been with WWE since signing with the company in 2011.
