A US mother has thanked a busker who allowed her autistic son to touch his guitar in an attempt to "feel the music".

The mother posted video of the touching moment when eight-year-old Jacob approached the bluegrass singer in downtown Lawrence, Kansas on May 13.

The clip shows the youngster and his mother standing beside Tyler Gregory as he strums his acoustic guitar and stamps his feet on a wooden box while singing.

Jacob sways back and forth in time to the music and slowly edges towards Mr Gregory, before reaching out to his guitar.

The child's hand touched the fret board and muted the strings a few times before his mother stopped him.

But Mr Gregory took the interference in his stride, playing on as Jacob touched his leg and the body of his guitar.

And his patience was noticed by Jacob's mother who complemented the singer in her YouTube post.

"Thank you so much for letting Jacob feel the music!" she wrote.

One YouTube user said "the guitarist showed his true colours here and he must be a great dude" while another commented "this is why music is mankind's greatest way to convey emotion".
