CHARACTER HISTORY

Buffalo Jones (real name Christopher Ryland Jones) was born in the winter of 1978 in Cripple Creek, Colorado to seamstress Evelyn Jones (nee Thompkins) and professional wrestler "The Gambler" Eddie Jones.

Points of Jones' life are mired in mystery, as he has historically been very resistant to doing interviews outside of kayfabe.

What is known of Jones' life is largely tragic.

His father debuted as a wrestler in the early 1970s and worked in his home state of Colorado for several years, before gaining nationwide acclaim and beginning to tour the midwest and northeast, winning major titles in Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Cincinnati territories. Just as the elder Jones' career was beginning to take off, his life was tragically cut short in a fatal airplane crash on Christmas Eve 1978, when Christopher was only a week old.

Jones grew up humbly as an only child, with his mother sometimes working several jobs to keep the two of them afloat. In high school, Jones was a standout dual-sport athlete, specializing in football and wrestling. Because of his credentials, he was able to attend the University of Colorado - Boulder on a full ride football scholarship. Jones played linebacker for the Buffs for two and a half seasons, with modest success. Jones' junior year was cut short with a serious concussion. With lingering symptoms, Jones was forced to step aside and was promptly replaced on the squad. Jones would not return to play in his senior year at Colorado, nor would he ever finish college to earn a degree.

With his collegiate football career behind him and no proper qualifications, Jones briefly contemplated his future before reaching out to some of his father's former colleagues, deciding he would train as a wrestler. Jones made his wrestling debut for a local promotion some time in 1999, adopting the Buffalo moniker as an homage to his football career and a symbol of his home state.

Things did not take off quickly for Jones, who wrestled for several years in the Denver area, before retiring for the first time due to his career never getting off the ground and his mother becoming sick. Jones would go to back to a 9 to 5 job, wrestling no matches between 2004 and 2007. With his mother recovering and the desire for competition returning, Jones got back into the business in 2008. This reinvigorated version of Jones gained more attention but still wasn't able to make it to the next step. At the recommendation of one of his father's old wrestling peers, Jones began contacting promoters in Mexico and Japan in order to expand his career. In 2009, Jones packed up and moved to Mexico City to begin wrestling for a regional lucha libre promotion. He was promised that with his look, he could excel as a top heel in the country. Jones put in the work, but financially struggled and reportedly had to work side jobs. It's around this time that Jones' story becomes particularly blurry. After 3 years in Mexico, Jones abruptly left the country. Instead of returning to America or travelling overseas, Jones relocated to Peru and opened his own wrestling company with Don Peligroso, who he befriended while working in the same Mexican company. Information regarding his company and events are scarce, but the company, known as Lucha Ilimitada, was in operation from late 2012 until 2017. Around the same time that the event stopped running shows, Don Peligroso was killed in a car wreck in Delicias, Mexico. Jones was back to competing in American independent promotions in 2018 and was announced as a signee for XWF in January of 2020, his first gig for a major American promotion after 21 years as a pro.

Jones' exploits in South America are a hotly contested topic. To this point, he has not discussed anything beyond his in-ring work in Mexico and Peru, and his personal life remains a total mystery. Intrigue over his time in South America was spurred on by a story released online weeks after the passing of Don Peligroso which revealed legal documents that seemed to indicate his death was not accidental. Rumors also swirled about Don's (and by extension, Jones') alleged involvement with the Mexican cartel, which incidentally was the most relevance Jones had seen in the mainstream wrestling bubble throughout his career.

Despite all the theories and accusations about Jones, he has kept a clean record and now in XWF, he is focused solely on displaying his skills and making the most of what could be his last opportunity at making something of himself as a wrestler.

REGULAR ENTRANCE DESCRIPTION

The clatter of a bass drum and a loud voice pound onto the PA system as "Bartholomew" by The Silent Comedy begins playing in the arena. Around 20 seconds pass, until a guitar enters the fray and out from the back emerges a cold as steel Buffalo Jones. Wearing a plain black windbreaker with a white towel hanging around his neck, Jones steps onto the stage and takes a brief pause, surveying over the audience with an unwavering seriousness. Jones then fixes his gaze upon the squared circle and begins his march down to the ring, never taking his eyes off the prize.

Reina de la Cruz: Making his way to the ring, from Cripple Creek, Colorado... weighing in at 235 pounds, Buffalo Jones!

Reaching the end of the ramp, Jones takes one more brief pause before busting a left and heading towards the steel steps. He reaches the steps, and emphatically marches up onto the apron, which he walks halfway across before entering between the ropes. Once in the ring, Jones makes a couple of laps, looking down, never again acknowledging the fans. After a minute of walking around the ring, Jones settles into his corner, where he wipes his hands with his towel, before dropping it out of the ring. Jones removes his windbreaker and drops it out as well. He begins to warm up with stretches as he prepares for the upcoming bout.
