Fresh off his big NXT TItle win this week at New Year’s Evil, Bron Breakker appeared on Corey Graves’ “After The Bell” podcast to talk about his NXT run so far, Tommaso Ciampa, his father Rick Steiner, and more.
Bron talking about Tomasso Ciampa:
“Tomasso is an outstanding performer. He’s an outstanding human being. He’s a husband. He’s a father. He’s an outstanding person who I got to know over time. We’ve worked together and battled. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s a veteran of the game. He’s one of the best to ever step foot in an NXT ring, if not the best. He’s a pro. He’s a leader in the locker room. He’s the leader of this company, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for him.”
On his family being at the show:
“That’s the first time my dad (Rick Steiner) has seen me wrestle. It was cool to see him and my brother in the front row. My dad has high expectations for me. There’s a high bar and I have huge shoes to fill in terms of what he and my uncle did before me. It was cool for him to be a part of that. It was an emotional roller coaster. I’m glad he was able to come down and share that with me.”
On whether it’s a concern to fill the shoes of his dad:
“I mean, it’s not really concerning. It’s become my whole life. It’s been that way for a long time. It’s been that way in any sport that I’ve done. It’s been the same thing in football. When I was an amateur wrestler, it was the same thing. When I was a baseball player, anything that I’m doing, school work, I had to carry myself to a higher standard because I was Rick Steiner’s son, so there’s a bar that I have to live up to. It’s been that way pretty much my whole life. I’m used to it. I take it as a challenge. I take it head on. I’m like, bring it because I have the mentality that I want to be the best anyway.”
On using some of the Steiner Brothers moves in the ring:
“There’s a couple things that I do that my dad and uncle (Scott Steiner) both did back in the day. There’s a reason for that. It’s not just because it’s their stuff and I want to use it or I think it’s cool. It’s more about me preserving things that they’ve done back in the day. I just think it’s cool that I can take stuff from both of them and implement them into my arsenal. The singlets that I wear represent my family. The style that I do is from the ‘80s and nobody does it anymore.”
On the veterans who have helped him:
“I’m going to have more time with the WWE Universe as my career progresses. There’s going to be more human interaction time rather than Bron Breakker in the ring trying to rip someone’s head off. I’m looking forward to showing people my human side and the quality person that I can be. I want to impact people’s lives, and impact people’s lives as a kid because guys did that for me when I was a kid. Being in the locker room as a kid, being a part of wrestling and being around it, I looked up to people. Bill Goldberg is one right off the top. He’s been a mentor to me for a long time, football when I was playing in college and the NFL for a short time. He was always giving me tips or calling me up and telling me things I need to get better at. My dad and uncle. Kevin Nash is another one. I owe a lot to Kevin Nash. He’s a huge part of the reason why I’m here. There’s lots of guys. There’s tons of guys from that era of WCW and WWE early in the 2000s. Stone Cold Steve Austin is another one. I looked up to those guys. Those guys were my heroes growing up.”
