Brian Cage set to become free agent

AEW & Ring of Honor roster member Brian Cage is set to become a free agent after this month, according to Fightful.

The outlet originally reported in late-January that the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champion's deal was set to expire in a matter of weeks which they clarified as late-January/early-February.

On Wednesday, they reported that AEW was looking to extend his deal through "at least the end of June" due to injury time as he was recovering from an injury when he first signed with the company. He pushed back on that and they came to a deal for him to work through March 31st's Supercard of Honor.

They reported that while AEW has offered an extension that is comparable to his current contract, Cage wants to explore free agency as WWE is reportedly interested in talking to him once his deal is up.

Cage has been featured more prominently on AEW TV as of late with matches against Bryan Danielson, Konosuke Takeshita, and "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry. He was also part of last week's first episode of the ROH TV relaunch.

If Cage was put up against any of those guys he'd look that much smaller. I'm not saying he's small, he's just not as big as any those guys. That's the issue with him though, he's muscular but when it comes to it he has very little beyond that.

He is shorter than them n is a very average promo. I like Cage esp recently, but outside money, he aint gettin a bigger push in WWE. Let him test free agency though I wish him the best.

I think there may have been a time where MAYBE they were interested. I still think he too short for WWE (no Idgaf about height, but they still do to a degree)

I think it's just rumors rn but it wouldn't surprise me if with the sale they were told not to hire anyone too, so if not WWE for whatever reason then I doubt t he gets a better offer. Mexico surely doesn't pay enough and I bet he can still work there anyway

nah it's a pretty substantiated rumor tbh, Meltzer reported a potential hiring freeze. And it's logical especially leading up to a merger you would not add on cost. And we also know that mergers usually create redundancies and layoffs so likely we will see cuts before new hires? hard to say though , "hopefully" it'll be mostly office folks

back to Cage, I am happy to see him stick around. I think the angle with Swerve is awesome and a definite upgrade for both Swerve and Embassy. There is also a fun little caveat there with Kaun having "still some love" for Shane Taylor, whom is still loosely associated with Lee. If those two factions come to a head, what he gonna do!
