Bret Hart says he would love to be part of AEW but for right now, he's happy being at home.

Speaking to Lucha Libre Online, the 64-year-old says that he wants to be remembered as a wrestler and not as a manager or in another role. He also said that right now he's making up for lost time after having spent 30 years on the road.

"I'm mostly making up for a lot of lost time, staying home as much as I can," Hart said during the interview. "Trying to make up for all the lost time from being gone all the time for 30 years."

Regarding a potential role in the industry now, Hart said there isn't much he can do in wrestling.

"I'm happy retired. I'm a home guy now. There's not a lot I can do in wrestling," he continued.

"What would I do? Referee? Manage? Be a chairman? I don't want to be remembered that way. I want to be remembered as a wrestler."

Regarding a potential role with AEW, Hart said he has a lot of respect for the organization but reiterated that he is content spending his time at home.

"There's a lot of things I would love to be part of with AEW and what they are doing and they've got some great wrestlers there. I have a lot of respect for the organization and all that but right now, I'm happy at home."

It was recently reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Hart is under a merchandising deal with WWE. He is also scheduled to be in FTR's corner for a Big Time Wrestling show in Webster, Massachusetts on June 10.

It is not clear if Hart is contractually able to appear for AEW at the moment. AEW was under the impression that he was not legally available to them due to his deal with WWE. They have not contacted him regarding an appearance at Double or Nothing for the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

"AEW was under the impression he could not appear for them due to his deal with WWE," wrote Dave Meltzer. "We don’t have it clear whether Hart could legally appear on an AEW broadcast or not, past AEW believed he was not legally available to them."

Bret's right, what would he even do if he was in AEW? Just look at Arn, Jake, Tully and so on and whatnot.

Being a feckless manager for a babyface team would be lame.

No disrespect to Bret, but if an act in AEW needs a manager, I don’t think he’s the guy to call.

Bringing him in would be cool for a nostalgia pop but after that it wouldn’t really mean anything.

I agree with him and as cool as it would be to see him appear, I’d rather he be remembered as a wrestler.

Bret’s promos were great btw. Whether it was in WWE or even WCW, that El Dandy promo is legendary.
