Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been killed, a source has confirmed to ESPN.com.

McNair, 36, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville, police spokesperson Don Aaron said. A female victim was also found dead. Aaron said the woman has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.

The incident happened near 2nd South & Lea Ave in Nashville.

McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL, 11 were with the Titans. He played his final two years with the Baltimore Ravens, retiring after the 2007 season.

"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today," Titans owner K.S. "Bud" Adams Jr. said in a statement. "He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."

McNair was picked third overall in the 1995 draft out of Alcorn State by the then Houston Oilers.

Wow...he was a hell of a QB :(

I'll wait to see if the shooting was random or not before I post my thoughts. But my guess would be it's not random, and probably gang related. If that's the case, I really don't care.

Try again. Dude was a class act, not involved with thugs. They're saying an apparent homicide-suicide. The lady he was found with wasn't his wife though, so his wife is being questioned as well :(. Horrible news. I'm getting tired of seeing those patches on NFL jerseys every single season :(.

Not saying it was gang related. It'd be stupid of me to say that, with no evidence to back it up. Just saying that if it turned out to be that, I would feel no symptahy for the guy. But hopefully that's not it, and it was a tragic, and undeserved killing. If that's the case, RIP to him, and it's sad so many people have been dying lately. I guess time will tell.

^You said your guess was that it was gang-related. Perhaps you didn't mean it like that, but that's what you said.

Rofl, my bad. You're right though. That's not how I meant it, but I can see how you thought that. Don't know how I even ended up putting that there, but yeah, now you know what I mean/meant. Like, people don't get shot in their own house every day. Alot of times shit like that is related to something/someone the person has a feud with. I hope that's not it, and I can't just assume it is. No reason to believe so. So until I hear differently, RIP.

^When celebrities cease to exist altogether. People die everyday. Celebs gotta go sometime too.

Steve McNair was a tough sumbitch too. I mean the shit he played through most quarterbacks would have bitched out and gone on the DL for the season.

When I first saw this I thought it was some sort of joke.

People just can't (Or won't) respect life :smh

Rest in peace, Steve McNair.
