Associated Press BOSTON (AP) - A Woburn police officer killed while responding to a botched jewelry robbery has been posthumously awarded the state's highest honor for bravery.

The family of Officer John "Jack" Maguire was presented with a Medal of Honor award at a Statehouse ceremony Friday.

Maguire was among more than two dozen law enforcement officers honored for bravery at the ceremony.

Police said Maguire was shot and killed by Domenic Cinelli, a career criminal who also died in the exchange of gunfire.

Officers from Boston, Lowell, Fall River, Everett, Chelsea were also presented with awards for bravery, as were officers from the state police, FBI and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The annual awards are named in memory of George Hanna, a state trooper gunned down during a 1983 traffic stop.
