CRAVEN COUNTY -- The FBI is among the agencies investigating after a bomb exploded on a home's front porch, with a mother of three inside the house.
It happened early Sunday morning on the 2100 block of Perrytown Loop Road. The explosion ripped wood from the outside of the home and the damage spread inside the home. The woman's children were not home, and the mother herself was not hurt.
Sgt. Mark Weaver with the Craven County Sheriff's Office says the bomb was an IED; he said no other details can be publicly released about the bomb at this point.
Investigators have interviewed a person of interest, but deputies say they are still working on a motive. Sgt. Weaver says this bomb is believed to be an isolated incident.
In addition to the FBI, other agencies investigating are the North Carolina SBI, Craven County Sheriff's Office, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Investigators, thinking of the woman's safety, have asked to have her name witheld from publication.
