Bobby Green vs. Abel Trujillo set for UFC 176 in Los Angeles

The UFC’s return to the City of Angels in August has a new lightweight fight on tap.

Bobby Green (22-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will meet Abel Trujillo (12-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at UFC 176. Promotion officials announced the booking on Monday after an initial report from ESPN.com‘s Brett Okamoto.

UFC 176 takes place Aug. 2 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event’s main card airs live on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. It is not known where on the card the Green-Trujillo bout will be placed. The show will be headlined by a featherweight title fight rematch between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Chad Mendes.

The fight is a re-booking from one that was set for UFC 168 in February, but that Green had to pull out of with an injury. Trujillo was recently booked for a fight against Myles Jury later this month at UFC Fight Night 44, but Jury pulled out of that fight with an injury, and when Frank Trevino also couldn’t come through as a replacement, Green was moved off the card into this fight with Green.

Green will bring a seven-fight winning streak into the matchup, including a perfect 3-0 start to his UFC career after going 4-1 under the Strikeforce banner before the two promotions’ merger. Green went perfect in 2013 with a “Submission of the Night†win over Jacob Volkmann, a TKO of James Krause and a decision win over Pat Healy this past December. He’ll have gone just over three years since his most recent loss when he meets Trujillo.

Trujillo has won back-to-back fights since a no-contest bout with Roger Bowling that was stopped due to an illegal knee that kept Bowling from continuing. In the rematch in December, Trujillo won with an impressive second-round TKO, and he followed that up in February with a “Knockout of the Night†and “Fight of the Night†win against Jamie Varner at UFC 169.

The latest UFC 176 card includes:

Champ Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes – for featherweight title
Jussier Formiga vs. Zach Makovsky
Fabricio Camoes vs. Gray Maynard
Derek Brunson vs. Lorenz Larkin
Bobby Green vs. Abel Trujillo
Walmir Lazaro vs. James Vick
