If you use Skype still, something that may be annoying you like it is for me are the ads.
Normally I just ignore them but I have been getting multiple pop-up triggers from viruses linked within the ads.
NOT COOL Microsack! I swear they ruined Skype when they bought it...

Anyways, to fix this and not see ads at all just do the following on your computer:

  • Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites
  • Add in both apps.skype.com AND g.msn.com
  • Close down Skype and reopen it, should not see any ads, only the placements for them.
I just wanted to share this because it was making me mad and could be useful for others.

You can also remove the placeholders for ads too. Skype must be closed before doing this.

  • Press Win + R keys
  • Type %appdata%\skype in the dialog box
  • Open the folder named after your username/Skype ID
  • Open config.xml
  • Find
Code:
<AdvertPlaceholder>1</AdvertPlaceholder>

replace with

Code:
<AdvertPlaceholder>0</AdvertPlaceholder>

Done!
