Billy Sharps, True credit to football

Courageous Doncaster skipper Billy Sharp upstaged debutant El Hadji Diouf for Doncaster Rovers by playing through the anguish of a shattering personal heartbreak.

Diouf was a surprise inclusion in Dean Saunders’ starting line-up, as was Sharp, so soon after the death of his two-day-old son Louie Jacob on Saturday.

But the distraught striker insisted on leading Doncaster out, with a request for a minute’s applause to celebrate the short life of his son.

Both both teams, the officials and supporters of both sides obliged with feeling.

Sharps scored the only goal for his side in a 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough in the NPower Championship, The second tier of English football. After scoring the goal he revealed a shirt underneath which read 'Thats for you son'.

This man is a true ambassador to the game, Playing so shortly after his 2 day old sons death. Its sickening to think this man gets payed a measly £10,000 a week compared to the likes of Carlos Tevez who earns £250,000 a week, The man who wouldn't even get off the bench to help his team against Bayern Munich a few weeks ago.

He phoned Saunders and told him he wanted to get a goal for his son, and even though he wasnt training he let him play, which is absolutely the right decision, such a great story out of such disaster

Great story. Good on all involved for supporting him and allowing him to play. Fantastic that he was able to score a goal for his son. Good to read a nice story in sport rather than about players wanting more than the millions of dollars they already get.
