Plain and simple who do you believe was the fighter of the year. For me this is an easy question. Even though I rooted against him when he fought Couture there is no doubt in my mind Lesnar is the fighter of the year. I mean he debuted took the title all in the same year. He's an unstoppable force and we'll do nothing but see better and better things out of him in 09.

I can agree with that. Love him or hate him, he is a behemoth and an unstoppable force.

Question = Who can you actually see beating this guy?

That would make another good thread and call me dumb but I think Mir would have a chance. People think the first time was a fluke. But fluke or not you know there's still gotta be a spot in lesnars head were that Frank Mir defeat bugs him.

saying brock is the best fighter of 2008 is definately overrating him. I would definately go with Anderson silva, he's won all three of his fights this year and has fought in Middleweight and Light Heavyweight decision, no one has gone the limit with him in a while and has won 8 in a row in the UFC.

Idk cuase I kind of tend to underrate Lesnar just cuase I don't wanna seem like another mark. But his year was amazing. He had a dissapointing upset again Mir but then went on to destory Herring and then gets stuck in a title bout and wins. Pretty amazing. Besides idk if you can consider Cote vs. Silva really a fight.

I can't see how Lesnar is Fighter of the Year really. Ok he won the Championship which is a great achievement in itself, but he only started to pwn in the middle of the year.

If it was the last hal of the year I'd go for Lesnar, but as a whole year in 2008 it has to be Georges St Pierre, he won back the belt in good fashion and dominated one of the top 3 welterweights in the world (Jon Fitch) for 25 minutes straight.

When I think Fighter of the Year, a couple names come to mind...

Brock Lesnar (of course) - The guy debuted in Febuary. He lost his first fight, had another in August, won, and then another fight in November winning against Randy Couture. The guy's UFC record is 2-1. In his first year fighting he won the World Heavyweight Championship. What more can possibly scream FIGHTER OF THE YEAR?

Forrest Griffin - You have to give Forrest credit. He was the first Ultimate Fighter and proved to everyone that winners of the Ultimate Fighter can eventually become champion. Plus he beat Rampage Jackson which is a pretty big accomplishment in itself.

Anderson Silva - Silva still undefeated in the UFC. He is the current reigning UFC Middleweight Champion, plus on top of it all he moved up to Light Heavyweight and destroyed James Irvin.

I don't think I would be able to decide, but just off the top of my head the order is as follows...

1. Lesnar
2. Silva
3. Griffin

Silva showed domination this year and proved he deserves the hype.
Griffin shocked the world and showed that TUF fighters need to be respected as much as the other guys.
Lesner did the unimaginable in his first year and, showed a lot of hardcore MMA fans that he's not just some WWE guy but is a legitimate threat.

All three were very impressive in 2008, and I'd probably rank them as I've listed them above.

ps You can't dismiss the Cote fight at all in my opinion. Not because Silva won but because you have to remember Cote was the first fighter to take Silva to the third round since he's been in the UFC. Silva wasn't his usual self in that fight, I don't know if it was just toying with Cote, or just couldn't figure him out.
