Bernardo Magalhaes says he's fighting Henry Martinez at UFC on FX 3
Brazilian-born Bernardo Magalhaes (11-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) says his second opportunity at a UFC win is coming on June 8.
The Australian resident recently revealed on Twitter that he's booked to face Henry Martinez (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC on FX 3.
UFC executives have yet to make an official announcement for the lightweight fight.
UFC on FX 3 takes place June 8. While the main card airs on FX, officials haven't finalized a venue for the event.
Magalhaes made his UFC debut in February, falling short via unanimous decision to fellow newcomer Tim Means at UFC on FUEL TV 1. The loss snapped a five fight win streak for Magalhaes, who appeared a bit out of sorts during the fight as Means used a reach advantage and pinpoint striking from the outside to keep "Trekko" at bay.
Magalhaes had been expected to face Yoislandy Izquierdo at UFC on FUEL TV 1, but he was pulled from the fight due to contractual issues with Championship Fighting Alliance, allowing Means to come in as a late replacement. Izquierdo eventually worked out the terms of his deal and will soon debut for the UFC.
Meanwhile, Martinez also hopes to earn his first UFC win after losing a hard-fought split decision in his octagon debut. A natural lightweight, Martinez moved up to 170 pounds to take a short-notice fight against Matthew Riddle at UFC 143. Despite facing a massive size disparity, Martinez went toe-to-toe with Riddle and had the upper-hand early. Riddle eventually righted the ship and earned a split result in the entertaining affair.
