Lightweight champ Ben Henderson now has a date set for his first title defense. His opponent…none other than the man he defeated to win the belt, Frankie Edgar. The rematch doesn’t come as a big surprise to fans, after Ben Henderson defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 144 in a thrilling fight, there was immediate talk of a rematch. Dana White and Joe Silva both scored Edgar the winner of the fight, which may have had an impact on him getting a rematch.

Dana White originally had different plans for Edgar; He wanted him to drop down to the 145 pound division and face Jose Aldo for the featherweight title. Edgar wasn’t as enthusiastic about joining the featherweight division, he wanted to continue his career as a lightweight.

After the UFC 144 press conference Edgar said “I’ve been so dominant at this weight class, I beat some very good guys, and I don’t feel it’s disrespectful towards me, I feel it’s disrespectful towards them.”

Now it seems Dana White is willing to give Edgar his chance at redemption by giving him an immediate rematch with Ben Henderson. Edgar gave 2 opponents (BJ Penn and Gray Maynard) immediate rematches, which may have helped tipped the scales in his favor when debating whether or not to change weight classes.

Henderson will be defending his title at UFC 150 which is set for August 11th in Denver Colorado.

FRANKIE EDGAR, WE COMING FOR YOU :Vader:

Luiz Cane vs. Yushin Okami, and Thiago Tavares vs. Dennis Hallman have been added to UFC 150 along with Bendo-Edgar II. Luiz Cane is dropping to 185 to take this fight with Okami also.

Look for Edgar/Henderson III to happen 3 months after this card :clay:

Not likely, but they really screw shit up with these rematches. IMO Edgar got beat no doubt so a immediate rematch was out of the question. You build awesome trilogy and rivals but putting some space between rematches, just missing the ball here.

Anyways I want Edgar to loose BAD...not that I don't like the guy, just tired of him clogging up the most stacked division in the UFC cause he's got Dana's ball in constant gurgle mode in his mouth. There's easily 5 LW title fight I would like to see after this match.

I have A desire to see Frankie get messed up bad, him bitching about how he thought he won that fight since February has been annoying as hell. This fight shouldn't even happen, I'm hoping Bendo goes for the finish in this fight.

All these rematches have bogged down the LW division so much, surprised a lot of these guys haven't given 145 a shot, there's not a ton of talent there, but it is a harder cut.
Don't see why Bendo won't win, will prob be another decision victory as Frankie can't be finished and Bendo just overpowers Edgar in every categories.

Honestly, i don't even see the point of a 145 Featherweight division. UFC should just combine the Featherweights with the Lightweights. It's a 10 pound weight difference and it would open up for SO much competition at 155.

Just read that Edgar is saying if he loses here, then he'll move down to 145. I have my doubts, watch this fight will end with a draw and he'll bitch and moan for a third fight with Bendo.

Honestly though would him moving down to 145 sort this shit, if anything he'll lose to Aldo clearly and this cycle will start again, just replace Bendo's name with Aldo.

No idea why he got the rematch. I can understand why Maynard had the rematch since it was a draw but this was a clear cut win to Bendo, it wasn't even a close fight, Edgar got schooled by Bendo. I really hope that Bendo finishes him early in the fight so that it will hopefully shut Edgar up.
