Just last month, word broke that Warner Bros. was itching to push Ben Affleck back in front of the camera without him running back behind it to direct for political comedy Nathan Decker. But while he was in early talks for that one, it would seem that New Regency was already attempting to have him star in a film, this time online gambling drama Runner, Runner, which would see him acting alongside Justin Timberlake.
Brad Furman – who last year made the excellent The Lincoln Lawyer – is set to direct the film, which is being kept largely under wraps aside from the idea of it being set in the illegal world of ‘net based poker and other games (the title seems to indicate horse racing might be involved.)
The script comes from writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who have some form with gambling, having penned the screenplay for 1998’s high-stakes poker thriller Rounders.
As to when it’ll all get shooting is anyone’s guess, as the actors are both busy. Affleck’s wrapping up post-production on kidnap thriller Argo and Timberlake has already finished work on the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis and is now shooting Trouble With The Curve alongside Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams.
