New Batman: Arkham City Details
The Bat is back and he's packing a punch!

The latest issue of Game Informer magazine has revealed some new details about Batman: Arkham City, the sequel to last year's hit title from UK-based developer Rocksteady. The game is currently set for release next fall for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The story for Arkham City takes place one year after the events of Arkham Asylum. The warden from the first game, Quincy Sharp, is now mayor of Gotham City, and he purchased a large portion of the city's slums to build a new criminal facility. "Arkham City," as it is called, houses all the insane prisoners previously found on the asylum before Joker left it in ruins. Psychiatrist Hugo Strange is now heading the new facility, and the only rule the prisoners are given is not to escape, leaving them to fend for themselves inside the guarded walls within the city.

Die-hard fans of the first title will be relieved to know Rocksteady isn't going to mash together a quick sequel with a few new villains while recycling a number of art assets.

"We want to top everything that we did in the last game," director Sefton Hill told the magazine. "We didn't want to do an Arkham Asylum 1.5. We want to make the same jump we made from nothing to Arkham, We want to make that same jump again for Arkham City – the same level of ambition."

Two-Face is confirmed for Arkham City, and is battling Joker and other key villains as they recruit inmates to join their respective gangs. Catwoman, meanwhile, will play Batman's love interest, and will team up with him throughout the game. Is she friend or foe? It's unclear what Catwoman's motives really are.

Most of Batman's weapons and gadgets from the first game will return for the sequel, and he'll actually start the game with them all. Those weapons can receive further upgrades. New gadgets include a Bat Claw that can fetch items too far away and a broadcast analyzer to track transmissions.

The combat will also see several new additions, including simultaneous counters, gadget incorporation (such as spraying explosive gel on enemies), and projectile counters from inmates that throw things at you from afar.

Arkham City will have many side-quests involving key characters, harder, more advanced Riddler trophies that involve puzzle solving, and more varied enemy types. The Batman issue of Game Informer should be hitting newsstands soon. Check it out for more details.

Sounds like Escape From New York with Batman as Snake Plissken. Of course, that's a cool concept so I'm perfectly okay with it. Would have been a little more neat if they actually used a canon story - a la No Man's Land, which had a similar plot anyway, but fuck it, this game is gonna rule regardless.

Fucking awesome doesn't even come close to describing the stills you included.

I cannot wait for this game.

This game looks pretty damn awesome, I was a huge fan of the first Arkham Asylum and this sounds like it's going to be a lot like the first, I just hope that it's a little longer, the first was a bit too short for my liking.

I am interested to see how they play Catwoman into the story, if it's anything like the comics it should be pretty interesting and back and forth. Overall, I am just curious to see what the story is and how some of the key villians will play into it, I also would LOOOVE to have Two-Face unlockable/playable, that would be pretty epic.

The first game is pretty overrated(terrible fucking ending boss battle) but it is easily one of the best comic hero games of all time and one of the best games this generation but it is no where near the elite. Hopefully, they fix what little flaws the first game has and actually make this game deserve all the praise this time.

I have no idea how a game could be considered one of the best comic hero games of all time AND one of the best games of this entire generation (ala, the past 20 years) and yet under those two distinctions, it's nowhere near the elite? Contradictory, don't you think?

Either way, this should be VERY interesting. Two Face and Joker battling for control, alongside God knows whatever other villains we can expect. Is it too much to ask for an actual boss battle against Killer Croc this time around? How about Scarecrow without the whole giantism thing going on? Both original instances were awesome in their delivery, but I just wanted to actually punch both of their faces in so bad by the end of it I never got that satisfaction.

Two Face, Joker, Scarecrow & Penguin for main gang leaders is what I would like to see. People underrate the Penguin, but he could offer a lot of possibilities.

What? This console generation. Is it not one of the best of this generation if you're talking actual generation and not console generation but everyone refers to console generations. This game is not up there with Uncharted 2, MGS4, COD4, RDR, Fallout 3, Killzone 2, perhaps Halo Reach and others. Not even close to top 10 or top 15 worthy. Top 25? Yes but it easily deserves a place there but we say top 10 worthy, its just ridiculous. Again, I'm referring to this console generation. If you're talking an actual generation then hell fucking no.

All I'm saying is that you said Batman AA was one of the best of all time, and yet it was nowhere close to the elites. I was giving you a friendly nudge towards your contradiction. You can't call a game "One of the best of all time" and then go on to name 25 other titles that are superior to it. It's a contradiction. I'm sorry that you feel offended by your own innocent slip.

I do agree that the last boss battle was pretty meh compared to the rest of the game, but personally I really enjoyed AA as a whole, now I wouldn't say it was one of the best games of the generation, it was definetely one of the best games of 2009 imo, right up there with games like Modern Warfare 2.

Wow man. You're putting words into my mouth. I specifically said its one of the best comic book games and one of the best games of this console generation, not one of the best games of all time. I feel offended? lol wtf. I'm fine man. You're just getting confused and misunderstood what I said I guess. I also said it is in the top 25 games but not in the top 10 or top 15(ala the elite).

Also, yeah if the ending boss battle didn't suck fucking ass, it would be much better. To make something as important as the final battle that fucking bad is just sad and disappointing.
