Maybe bank robbers shouldn't gun for Facebook likes with machismo selfies.
Brooklyn native Jules Bahler, 21, practically turned himself in to the FBI by posting a photo of himself holding the same submachine gun he allegedly wielded during a heist last week.
The young man is accused of holding up three banks in Michigan over eight days. During robberies in Pontiac, he reportedly passed notes demanding money to the tellers and netted a combined $8,300, The Smoking Gun reported.
On March 5, he uploaded the series of tough-guy selfies to Facebook. Afterward, he allegedly walked into a Chemical Bank in Bay City and "displayed what appeared to be a black sub machine gun and demanded money," according to an arrest affidavit, obtained by the crime news site.
Police say he took off with $7,000.
On Thursday, a police sergeant alerted the FBI to Bahler's Facebook page, which included images of him with "what appeared to be a submachine gun and wearing clothes matching those used in the aforementioned bank robberies," said FBI Agent Sean Callaghan.
Upon seeing the images, one of Bahler's friends offered the following sage advice: "U tripping brotha I wouldn't show that sh-t off like that cops be watching this sh-t brotha."
Indeed, they were.
Investigators busted Bahler in a traffic stop after he left his home and found the gun from the photos in a duffle bag near his feet, The Smoking Gun said.
He waived his Miranda rights and confessed to all three robberies, according to police.
Bahler was charged with bank robbery and carrying a firearm during a violent crime.
