A man who tried to sexually assault a young woman is in the hospital after his victim stabbed him Tuesday night, Seattle police detective Jeff Kappel said.

The victim, a woman in her mid-20s, was waiting for her mother to pick her up from outside her friend’s house in the 2700 block of South Massachusetts Street about 10 p.m.

The suspect, a man who lives in the area and police say is an acquaintance of the victim, asked the victim if she would like to wait for her ride in his house.

"Once inside the suspect's house, the suspect began to forcefully remove the victim's clothing at which time a physical struggle ensued," Kappel said. "The victim produced a knife and stabbed the suspect in the lower torso, enabling her to break free of the suspect and flee the home."

The suspect chased the victim outside but retreated back into his house when she began screaming.

A neighbor took the victim in to their home as police were called to the scene.

Police took the suspect into custody at his home and transported him to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening stab wounds.

"The suspect remains under guard and upon release from the hospital will be booked into the King County Jail for investigation of attempted rape," Kappel said.

The victim was not injured in the altercation.
