Assasin's Creed III Tackles the Revolutionary War
Article by Mike Snider, USA Today
The eons-long battle between the Assassins and the Templars is headed for the Revolutionary War.
Assassin's Creed III, due Oct. 30, and being developed for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and Windows PCs, stars a new assassin whose given name is Ratohnhaké:ton. Luckily for video game journalists and copy editors across the world, the character of Native American and English descent adopts the name Connor as an assassin.
Action in the game intertwines with actual events including clashes between Gen. George Washington's army and the British, publisher Ubisoft has announced. A new video trailer shows Connor taking out a squad of redcoats, climbing through snow covered trees and observing Washington's army on the offensive.
In development for more than three years, the new game involves twice the production capacity of any previous Ubisoft game, the company says. The result: "Assassin's Creed III will feature a ground-breaking level of stunning graphics that bring Colonial America to life ... breakthroughs in visual quality, character models and artificial intelligence," according to a press release.
"Assassin's Creed III features the franchise's most expansive setting so far, along with an exciting new hero and exponentially more gameplay," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in an accompanying statement. "Whether you're a longtime fan of Assassin's Creed or if you're new to the franchise, you're going to be blown away by the scale and marvel of Assassin's Creed III."
Gamers who pre-order the game at GameStop, Amazon.com or Best Buy can get a limited edition collectible case with artwork created by award-winning comic book artist Alex Ross (see Game Hunters' interview with Ross).
