Assasin's Creed III Tackles the Revolutionary War
Article by Mike Snider, USA Today

The eons-long battle between the Assassins and the Templars is headed for the Revolutionary War.

Assassin's Creed III, due Oct. 30, and being developed for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and Windows PCs, stars a new assassin whose given name is Ratohnhaké:ton. Luckily for video game journalists and copy editors across the world, the character of Native American and English descent adopts the name Connor as an assassin.

Action in the game intertwines with actual events including clashes between Gen. George Washington's army and the British, publisher Ubisoft has announced. A new video trailer shows Connor taking out a squad of redcoats, climbing through snow covered trees and observing Washington's army on the offensive.

In development for more than three years, the new game involves twice the production capacity of any previous Ubisoft game, the company says. The result: "Assassin's Creed III will feature a ground-breaking level of stunning graphics that bring Colonial America to life ... breakthroughs in visual quality, character models and artificial intelligence," according to a press release.

"Assassin's Creed III features the franchise's most expansive setting so far, along with an exciting new hero and exponentially more gameplay," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in an accompanying statement. "Whether you're a longtime fan of Assassin's Creed or if you're new to the franchise, you're going to be blown away by the scale and marvel of Assassin's Creed III."

Gamers who pre-order the game at GameStop, Amazon.com or Best Buy can get a limited edition collectible case with artwork created by award-winning comic book artist Alex Ross (see Game Hunters' interview with Ross).

For more information on Assassin's Creed, visit the official website and head to Game Informer, which features the game on its April cover.

I'm looking forward to this one, it looks so bad ass. The second one was so/so. I loved the first one though.

Assassin's Creed 3 Trailer Arrives, Wii U Release Confirmed

Assassin_s_Creed_3_Trailer_40142.jpg

Today Ubisoft formally announced Assassin's Creed 3. The open-world assassination game, revealed last week through leaks, throws players into the middle of the American Revolution.

The images released last week led many fans to speculate that AC3's hero was at least part Native American. They were right.

"Set against the backdrop of the American Revolution in the late 18th century, Assassin’s Creed III introduces a new hero, Ratohnhaké:ton, of Native American and English heritage," said Ubisoft. "Adopting the name Connor, he becomes the new voice for justice in the ancient war between the Assassins and Templars. Players become an Assassin in the war for liberty against ruthless tyranny in the most stylized and fluid combat experiences in the franchise to date. Assassin’s Creed III spans the Revolutionary War, taking gamers from the vibrant, untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns and the intense, chaotic battlefields where George Washington’s Continental Army clashed with the imposing British Army."

The new CGI trailer sets up this story. It shows Connor ambushing a patrol of British soldiers at night. The next morning, he climbs to the top of a hill to see the Continental and British armies facing off.

AC3 has been in development for three years. It's scheduled to hit the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 30th. Ubisoft says that they're developing a Wii U version as well but it doesn't seem that the release date for that platform has been set yet. Probably because no one knows when the Wii U itself will actually be released.

If you pre-order Assassin's Creed III through GameStop, Amazon, or Best Buy, you'll get a Limited Edition collectible case. The case features artwork from comic book artist Alex Ross. The end of the trailer provides a glimpse at it.
