Sheffield Wednesday have signed former Rangers midfielder Rhys McCabe on a three-year contract, subject to international clearance.

He made nine appearances for the Gers last season but opted against having his contract transferred to the newco following the club's liquidation.

Wednesday boss Dave Jones told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We feel he's a player with a lot of potential.

"He's got a lot of raw talent and he's a real prospect."

He added: "There were a lot of Premier League teams chasing him and we're delighted he's chosen us.

"We sold him the ambition of the club and he liked what he saw here and what we are trying to do."

The 20-year-old is a Scotland Under-21 international, having made his debut against Italy in April.

Meanwhile, defender Rob Jones, 32, has left the Owls by mutual consent.

Jones joined Wednesday from Scunthorpe last summer and made 37 appearances, as they gained automatic promotion from League One.

Anyone know anything about this kid, I'm hoping someone who watches the SPL regularly could tell me what to expect. Apparently we beat Everton, Swansea and QPR for him so he's got some potential I'm sure.

I hear from Rangers supporting mates (I use the term 'mates' loosely) that he's a very good player. One of them often spoke about him, although more about Wylde who's a bit meh IMO.

So basically no, I don't really know much about him :p
