Lucha star Abismo Negro (Andres Palomeque), who has made appearances for both WWF and TNA over the years, was found dead yesterday in a river in Mexico at the age of 37. There are conflicting reports regarding the details of his death, which I initially heard may have been a heart attack while other reports claim he may have drowned.

Last seen in the United States as part of the TNA World X Cup Tournament in 2004, Negro also appeared on the 1997 Royal Rumble PPV on an undercard Lucha tag that aired during the "Free For All" pre-game show. The PPV was held in San Antonio, TX at the same time WWF was trying to build a working relationship with Lucha promotion AAA that eventually went nowhere, although Negro and others did appear on WWF TV as well.

Prior to the Negro ringname, he worked under a mask as Winners and was one of the wrestlers who defected from CMLL to AAA when Antonio Pena had formed the company in 1923.

He had also worked in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH and Michinoku Pro at different points of his career.

Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Floating in the river... that's a new wrestling death. Nonetheless, RIP this is a sad day for Lucha Libre.
