New WWE Film "The Condemned" On Track To Bomb
According to preliminary Friday estimates on The-Numbers.com, "The Condemned" is on track for a very disappointing first weekend.
The film grossed an estimated $1.4 million for eighth place Friday night, which amounts to a mere $606 per theatre. By comparison, WWE's other films, "The Marine" and "See No Evil," grossed $2.4 million ($930 per screen) and $1.7 million ($1338 per screen) in their first days.
While "The Condemned" reportedly received the best internal reaction from WWE, it was universally panned by critics. Based on the DVD performance of "The Marine," the film still has a shot at success in the video market, but the opening weekend box office, which will likely be under $5 million, is on track to be very poor.
Last week's winner "Disturbia" has a shot at a third straight week atop the charts; it led all films with $3.2 million Friday night. New films "Invisible," "Next" and "Kickin' It Old Skool" followed with $3 million, $2.3 million and $.9 million for second, third and eleventh, respectively.
