MMAFighting said:Guilherme Cruz - RIO DE JANEIRO -- Anderson Silva doesn’t like to fight Brazilians, and he would quit MMA if the UFC tries to match him against his teammates Ronaldo Souza and Lyoto Machida.
Souza needed only two wins inside the Octagon to get closer to a shot at the UFC title, following first-round wins over Chris Camozzi and Yushin Okami. A win for the former light heavyweight champion Machida over Mark Muñoz in his middleweight debut in October already puts him "in the mix".
Silva will try to reclaim his 185-pound title on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada, as he faces Chris Weidman for UFC 168, and fighting his fellow Brazilians is not an option for "The Spider".
"I’m a man with honor," Silva told the fans during a Q&A session in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday. "I’d never fight Jacare or Lyoto. I’d even stop fighting just not to fight them."
"Jacare is a guy that has been doing a great job and can earn a title shot (soon)," he continued. "Lyoto is a close friend, a great athlete, and we train together, just like Jacare."
At 38 years old, Silva stated he would retire from the sport in order to avoid fighting his friends.
"If we get to a point where we’d have to fight," he said, "I’d even give up the title."
Funny how his last comment says "I'd even give up the title". Newsflash Anderson: your belt's in the hands of Chris Weidman right now
