Rogerio Camoes, the fitness coach of UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, has assured his fans that “The Spider” will be at the peak of physical fitness when he steps into the octagon for his UFC 147 rematch with Chael Sonnen during the month of June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil despite a slow start to his training camp.
Speaking via Sherdog.com, Camoes said:
“It’s a training that we do once a week, outside the gym. It is for resistance. The training was not specific to Anderson, because he is not yet in full physical form. He’s coming back now; we’re still [within] the activation period. We will only enter the specific period when [it is] eight weeks [out from his fight]. He is doing the training without the commitment to be at the peak of his physical form.”
“If Anderson was in top form [10 weeks before] the fight, something would be wrong. He comes from a rest period; he was coming from injury. He is returning to training, and I guarantee that he’ll be in full shape for this fight and flying as usual.”
The rivalry between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen has produced the biggest grudge match in UFC history. The two bitter rivals first faced each other in August of 2010 at UFC 117 in Oakland, California. The battle featured arguably the biggest come-from-behind win ever; as Silva, who was being dominated from the beginning of the fight, submitted his American rival with a triangle choke in the last round. It was the seventh of nine title defences for the Brazilian champion.
As Pumped as i am for for UFC this weekend and UFC 145 next weekend, words can't describe how excited i am for Sonnen vs Silva II.
