Two of the toughest contenders in the light-heavyweight division have verbally agreed to fight in Las Vegas December 30th as Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson will take on Vladimir "The Janitor" Matyushenko.
The two were originally slated to meet at UFC 133 in Philadelphia last month, but a late injury sidelined Matyushenko. Instead, Gustafsson fought Matt Hamill, winning via TKO in the second round.
Gustafsson picked up the most impressive win of his career in that thrashing of Hamill, and cemented his place as a rising star in the 205-pound division. Matyushenko's last fight may been his most impressive as well, knocking out Jason Brilz in 21 seconds at UFC 129 in May. Matyushenko has won four out of his last five fights overall, with his only loss coming to current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The two were originally slated to meet at UFC 133 in Philadelphia last month, but a late injury sidelined Matyushenko. Also scheduled for the card right now is a main event heavyweight battle between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, and a welterweight matchup between Jon Fitch and Johny Hendricks.
